Words can not describe the sadness as we in Europe watch one of its most notable buildings go up in smoke........ maybe it can't be saved .........

This is a massive loss.................
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

I was in Paris twice in the last 10 years and it is such a magnificent building I went to visit it both times. Very sad to see a structure that has stood for 850 years be destroyed like that. The French are hardy people - they will rebuild it. Of that you can be sure. You can actually walk around the cathedral whilst a service is in progress which at first I thought was very unusual but it's testament to the liberal nature of the people of Paris. Our Lady will be back.

Horrible to see but at least the main structure is intact! The heart of Paris must've skipped a few beats!!
Conspiracy theorists are out in droves ... from UFO's to heaven only knows what.
Have to say, the subject of sacred sites is fascinating though.
Certainly looks as though they'll pull out all the stops to rebuild and that funds won't be an issue.
Trumpty suggested water bombing - unbelievable.

i visited it back in 1984...only one word to describe it....breathtaking!
it was actually the highlight of a disappointing trip to Paris
it seems several French billionaires have pledged almost 600 Million Euros to help rebuild Notre Dame

An article showing something of the damage in pictures. I read that the magnificent pipe organ has been spared too - in structure in any event ...

Not related to the above - an 1890 painting with a particular poignancy ...

It is interesting to see the help coming in Andre Rieu will donate 700,000 Euros worth of steel to help with the rebuild. This steel is exactly the kind needed and is not easy to find .....Hele goed Andre!!!!!
