Your top 5 Xmas songs
#1
In response to the thread about the list of UK Christmas chart toppers, I have said that most of the Christmas songs in the list left me cold, as does most of the Christmas themed music I hear at this time of the year.

Looking on the positive side, though, what Christmas songs do you find actually pleasing on the ear? List your top 5 (or as many as you care to).

Mine, without thinking too hard:

1. Paul Kelly - How To Make Gravy
2. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
3. Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas?
4. Bing Crosby - White Christmas
5. Royal Guardsmen - Snoopy's Christmas

Worst Xmas song of all time:

John Denver - Please Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)

"Fall Softly Snow"-Jim Ed Brown & Helen Cornelius
"What Do You See?"-Sonya Isaacs
"Only You Can Bring Me Cheer"-Alison Krauss
"Go Tell It On The Mountain"-James Otto
"Mary, Its Christmas"-Toby Keith

God bless you and them always!!!

Holly

P.S. And may Jim Ed Brown be with the Lord.
Listen to my most favorite singer here sometime, James Otto that is!

not in any particular order:

Paul Kelly - How To Make Gravy
Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? (the original 1984 version, not the other two or three versions recorded subsequently)
anything Christmassy by Elvis Presley
John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Happy Xmas (war is over)
Roy Wood & The Wizard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody
Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine
Roy Orbison - Pretty Paper (which incidently was written by Willie Nelson)
Bing Crosby & David Bowie - Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy
Loretta Lynn - To Heck With Old Santa (its a novelty song)
any Christmas tune by Boney M

Chris Rea made a nice Xmas tune some years ago also, but I cannot remember what it was called, which is strange because im a big fan of Chris' work.

^^ "Driving Home For Christmas" was the one by Chris Rea. I don't know it, I only know of it having read music press about songs that are currently being revived for the season.

the Chris Rea one just sounds like a Chris Rea song, not really Christmassy sounding
so if you like Chris Rea, you'll like it, if not, you wont...
im surprised you don't know it bob_32, just about every radio station I listen to plays it this time of year..

not sure if this is the actual video for the song or not or a fan made video???

Incidentally I'm amazed that I forgot about the John and Yoko song - that would certainly make my top 10.

just for your info bob_32, I usually start a Christmas songs thread on December 1st and count down various yuletide tracks until Dec 24th,
I usually post one track a day (twenty four days of Christmas instead of 12),
no one ever posts anything in the thread (or very few comments anyway) so I didn't bother this year, maybe I should have.
so right or wrong, good or bad, thanks for starting thread to do with Christmas tunes in general
