my "singles" collection
NORMAN COOK "wont talk about it(featuring Billy Bragg)" b/w "blame it on the bassline" 1989

this was Norman's first single since the demise of The Housemartins and prior to him becoming Beats International/Fatboy Slim...
"a" side features Billy Bragg on guitar....
"b" side is basically a sample of Jackson's "blame it on the boogie" with some rap and 'scratch' things happening
single failed to chart here

ADAM AND THE ANTS "dog eat dog" b/w "physical!" 1980

"a" side is probably my least favourite track from their 'kings of the wild frontier' album...
"b" side, well, thats another piece of Ant-Crap!
single reached top10 in the UK but could only make it to #22 here

COMMUNARDS "theres more to love" b/w "zing went the strings" 1989

two terrible high pitched grating vocal songs here...
the "a" side has a disco feel to it, "b" side nore of a piano ballad which is better than the "A" side but i still dont like that one neither
single failed to chart here

ROLLING STONES "shes so cold" b/w "send it to me" 1980

both sides of this one come off their brilliant "emotional rescue" album...
love the sultry, sleazy sound on the "a" side, its everything the Stones do best IMO
"b" side is pretty good also, a bit slower than the "a" track but still cool stuff
single only reached #49 here

well, thats the end of my 7" and 12" singles(apart from Paul Weller solo stuff)...
thank God thats over with, but im moving on to my Paul Weller ones now along with
my "cds"(cd singles) of which i own a few also....
and i guess that looking at the 835 posts in this thread so far that ive probably listened to
around 780-800 singles since starting it a few months ago....

the biggest thing ive noticed about my singles so far is that bands i thought i loved when i was
a teenager like Bananarama and Depeche Mode(for example) didnt fare was well as i thought
they might have...
just goes to show how musical tastes change through the years/decades and what was once good
is now pretty lame to say the least, but at least most of these singles ive played have bought back
memories of either where i was when i first heard them, or what i was doing when they were released
and finally just how good it felt to actually go into a record store and admire the whole look and smell
of freshly pressed vinyl...aaah, hose were the "good old days" of music!
and thank God i have those memories(as we all do), as the younger generation does not have those
or could ever have memories like that in this new age of digital downloads and throw-away music.
i really pity them, i really do!

MASTER MEL cd single "when i was a sperm" 1995

single was a side project for Normal Cook aka Fatboy Slim....
there are four versions(mixes) of the song on the single...
lyrically it is quite funny but also gives a leeson on exactly how the sperm gets to fertilize an egg...
this is a rap song, but there are no typical rappy foul language things happening here, which is surprising considering the subject matter
i cannot find any chart info anywhere for this single, i guess it had "a low count"(sales wise,of course!!!)
all up though, a pretty good track.
i am only posting the original version as i dont think remixes really interest anyone here

"(scat jazz mix)" **

im not sure how many cd-singles i'llput up today as im listening to a couple of albums to post, but this single
is worth a listen if only for the humour in its lyrics...

THE PAUL WELLER MOVEMENT "into tomorrow" b/w "heres a new thing" 1991

7" vinyl of a now highly sought after Paul Weller single...
my version is the Japanese one on "freedom high' records...
Weller lost his deal with Polydor in 1989, he couldnt get another one in the UK(probably due to his arrogant attitude more than anything), but the Jap's
took him on...
"a" side is more guitar driven than his TSC material, more back to his UK r+b roots...
"b" side is a left over track from the TSC days that he remixed
single was only initially released in Japan but eventually reached #36 in the UK
