A little late to this party, but I just want to say that I agree entirely. I had been searching for a good music forum for about a year or two and tried probably about 5-6 before finding Music-Discussion. There was always something going on at the other ones where I just couldn't stand it. MD is honestly the best I've found. Knowledgable, friendly, and open-minded posters. One of the true good places.

Also agree with this entirely.

Music Head is very good with his knowledge on country(mainly real country),rock, and also Alternative as well as Bob Dylan to name a few
SteveO seems to be quite adept in a lot of real Metal, hard rock,Beatles and most things Canadian
evilB i havent quite worked him out as yet but he does have great allround knowledge of music(help me out here evil guy?!)
Jerome, very heavily into all things Prog, especially Pink Floyd, loves his Jarre,Mike Oldfield,Vangelis and all things experimental...has a passion for unusual instruments and sounds and dare i say is quite clever when it comes to recording/studio techniques as he does his own recording also.
jazzbo again, havent worked him out yet neither but he also has a good allround knowledge of music
Aw man, didn't even make it onto the list of regulars. Guess I have a new goal to strive for now.

Interesting that you choose those bands and that wording. Not that there's anything wrong with them or anything, but I feel like they're going in a totally different direction than "keeping rock's home fires burning." Sure they're still classified as rock, but, I feel like they've definitely got a sound that is super distinguishable from the heavier sounds that a lot of people still associate with rock. I think there's definitely a lot of bands in that style. The bands you listed all seem much more progressive (not in a prog-rock sort of way, but in a "evolving genre" sort of way). I could just be reading much too into it though.
