Producer: Chuck Nice, Too $hort, Kid Rock

1st album - did not chart
Singles - Yo-Da-Lin In The Valley

Not the Kid Rock most are familiar with. The kid started as a rapper and not a good one. Juvenile sex humor on most tracks. Sparse in the way of
any instruments. Reminds me of that early Fresh Prince stuff in delivery, and Jazzy Jeff even shows up on a track. Beastie Boys could fit also. Kid toured for this album opening for Ice Cube. Jive Records dropped him shortly after the albums release. It shows the leadoff track as being the single, but it couldn't have received any airplay, too vulgar. In fact a college radio station in New York got slapped with a $24000 fine for playing it. Most of the tracks would meet that same fate. I'm guessing that Kid was glad to put this act behind him as he progressed to more radio friendly material. I was able to squeeze 3 like tracks out of it, only because I was overcome by the beatz.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

ALOE BLACC "good things" cd, 2010.

career stats:

studio albums....3
singles..............4
'ep''s................3

this album.....#8 UK,#22 AU

singles:
"i need a dollar"...............#2 UK,#11 AU
"loving you is killing me"...no chart action in UK,AU,CAN,US
""green lights".................#130 UK

this is Aloe's second album...
the first didnt chart anywhere so he relocated from the US to the UK,recorded this one and had reasonable success.
this is as close to 'real' r+b/soul that modern musicians get to..
i hear bits of the old 'stax/atlantic'soul sounds here, also a bit of funky soul ala Impressions/Curtis Mayfield
album starts off pretty good with all thebest tracks in the first five songs, the album sort of quiver's and shakes a bit thereafter with a few i dont like,
overall though, for a modern black r+b guy he is streets ahead of anyone else in the game(except Bruno IMO).
four stupid remixes on my 'deluxe' edition but im not counting them in the post.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

BAD MEETS EVIL "hell:the sequel" cd, 2011

career stats:
albums:..........2
singles:..........5

this album: #1 US, #1 CAN, #3 AU, #7 UK
singles:
"fast lane"..........#32 US, #50 CAN, #57 AU, #66 UK
"lighters"...........#4 US, #4 CAN, #17 AU, #3 UK

this is the second and so far final album from Bad Meets Evil...
Bad Meets Evil are Royce Da 5'9(bad) and Eminem(evil), they were childhood friends in Warren,Michegan, not sure why, but Royce wasnt a part of the eminem posse D-12.
album was called an "ep" in the US and Canada, but an album everywhere else.
its rap, which is obvious...theres the usual stories of life growing up in and around the Detroit area...
theres mention of the usual pimps, hoes, vicadin, alcohol etc, but not as much as is the standard with most rappers.
theres also lots of profanities(not unexpected!), and plenty of trade off lines between the two rappers.
Eminem was back on the park with this album, his rapping is as good as it was on his first four albums and then again on "recovery"...none of that bullcrap from "encore" and "relapse"
Jerome will be shaking his head in disbelief right now, but these guys show what great skills they have.
i almost forgot..."lighters" features chorus vocals by Bruno Mars...
its a very good album for rap IMO.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: living proof
best track: lighters

tracks:

1. welcome to hell **
2. fast lane **
3. the re-union **
4. above the law **
5. im on everything ***

JAMES BROWN "50th anniversary collection" cd,2004

career stats:

studio albums............71
singles....................144
compilation albums.....49
live albums................14

James Brown,
often known as "the Godfather of Soul/Funk"...
i find his early material to be of a similar sound to Jackie Wilson, his mid 1960s stuff like Otis Redding/Wilson Pickett...and i love all three of those guys, so its little wonder i love his pre 1970s material...
after 1970 he has more of a funk groove happening, thats cool also, but funk IMO, is one of those genres like Reggae that is either what it is or its not in that genre(little variation).
this album contains fifty tracks spread over two discs...
this set was made properly IMO with the tracks pretty much in chronological release order, which is good to see any artist as they evolve and develop over the decades.
unfortunately there are eleven tracks i dont like on here...mainly the ones that have stupid lyrics like "funk me up...i wanna get funked up...heeeeeyyyyyy!,funk me,oh funk me"...that sort of crap, but hey, its hard to knock a guy as influential to black music as James was.
anyway, fifteen of the tracks, i love. and the remainder which equates to twenty-four i like and some of those come close to loving, others, barely make the like mark..he's just one of those guys who makes great music or crappy music.
i dont have a favourite James Brown track.
