Since you mentioned Pearl Jam and that you love neil young (like I do) then you should check out an album they did together in the mid 90s called Mirrorball. Album, which is one of my favourites of all time, has a very loose feel to it and was more or less written on the spot and recorded in a few takes live in the studio.

Just found a hilarious video for 'Downtown' which has recentley surfaced on youtube:

I like that, because I always thought that I am very diversified in my tastes.

gryphon Wrote:I would agree about genre...............I listen to the music and if it touches me in some way then I like it ......doesn't matter me me what label people put on it ................To me music is a communication of an emotion and we all know how varied and label-les they can be!:happy:Cool

That's exactly the point. One thing I could not do with all my music is name the style they are made of. I like a music, or not, no matter what are the instruments used to express it.

Sometimes I wish I could, for example, take a black metal song, revamp it with the same tempo and melody to a commercial radiophonic song, and prove to someone that hates metal that it's not the song they did not like, it's the "style". My point is if you are closed to a certain sort of music, you may miss some great songs. But hey, from that point it's about sound, not music; if we hate the sound of a song, it's too bad. In my case, the "Big Band" style have always got on my nerves and so I never gave it proper listen; I think not even one album I have have a song of this style on it.

So of course, some styles are more present that others, we can't be 100% musically objective and love every style without any sort of preference.

But in general, I pretty sure my musical collection include nearly at least one song of every style I can think of, except of course "Big Band". But it's possible that one song is actually this style and I simply don't know.

If someone have a good suggestion about this, it may complete my collection.

emery7 Wrote:I feel bad leaving out some of my favorite bands and artists, but this shows some variety in what I listen to:
Metallica, Slayer, Wilco, Drive-By-Truckers, The Band, Dixie Chicks, Frank Sinatra, Lady Gaga, Joe Nichols, John Coltrane, BB King, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Dierks Bentley, George Jones, Green Day, Bad Religion, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Alesana, August Burns Red, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Beethoven, Mozart, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, America, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Prine, Kasey Chambers, Eminem, Public Enemy, and Nas

From your list of 42, I enjoy: Drive-By-Truckers, Frank Sinatra, Lady Gaga, John Coltrane, The Mars Volta, Pink, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eminem, Public Enemy, and Nas.

I've heard the following enough to know they're okay, but not the sort of thing I listen to more than once or twice a year or so.: Wilco, Dixie Chicks, BB King, Green Day, Nirvana, Radiohead, Avril Lavigne, Led Zeppelin, Beethoven, Mozart.

The rest I either haven't heard, or have heard and don't care to hear any more.
