I like Don McClean version. I don't think I have heard Madonna's. If I did, then I didn't think much of it considering I can't remember it.

Just had a listen . Not to my taste I am sorry to say , but then to be fair , I can see it being a particularly popular song , particularly in the USA . Are they a USA Band ?

No they are actually a German band based in Berlin. They are a relatively unknown band with only one album released to date, called 'Strike'. The only good song is 'Umbrella'.

Agree with MH. Madonna does not have the cop-on to intepret a song like American Pie, which incidentally, captures a slice of history. Fortunately Madonna is now history - poet's justice!

American Pie is a song that I find myself singing to in my head more than any other song....maybe it's the catchy chorus....great song also his Vincent.

God , I'm surprised that this thread should still get any response after all this time . Was well plaesed whith the response it got when I first put it on though . Never though have I cahnged my opinion . For me it is still Madonnas version .
