evilB i havent quite worked him out as yet but he does have great allround knowledge of music(help me out here evil guy?!)
Too funny, actually I would listen to both of those. You never know what will take. When someone says that the music is weird or I won't like it I want to hear more, not to punish myself but to see if there is something in there that I do in fact enjoy. I listen to a lot of music with my tastes varying by my mood. Steve listens to everything and I listen to most things while giving everything a try.
I have a huge collection of music, I listen to CDs and Records mostly from my main stereo though I do have quite a few cassette tapes and reel to reel tapes (again very much a mood thing, some of my music is only on cassette so that's what I listen to - last week it was Utopia, Graham Parker, Dave Weckl and The Beat Farmers). I am always searching for a new sound to me - new to me can be a new release or a song that I haven't heard before - I've found "I don't listen to that stuff" only limits what I may discover. The computer and access to so many online music sources have really helped expand my search for the new and unusual. I now order directly from bands and their labels.
I have a strong background in music, learning, playing & teaching. For me the forum is another way for me to discover new music as well as share a few musical nuggets along the way. I do miss the search for titles in the local record store though.

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:there is some worthy talent out there Arctic-guy but i have to sift through a tonne of septic crap to find it because the guys with talent rarely get airplay or chart success on a large scale because all this generation wants to see/hear(and im generalising?)...is skanky videos, repeatative bollocksy lyircs and stupid looped computer generated beats. and that my friend is not music IMO, its noise/sound aimed at the masses to make a quick buck or two.
there's bands like Black Keys,Gaslight Anthem,Arcade Fire,Imagine Dragons,Fun,Kings Of Leon,My Morning Jacket,Airbourne to name a few, who are keeping rock's home fires burning!
Sounds correct to me. It's not even just a opinion but a very obvious fact. People like what they are. They are attracted to what reminds
them of them and what they can relate to. (Sex, getting the money and being aggressive and disgusting) So the most popular pop music of today is a direct reflection of where we are (in general, not us! lol)
now as a society and what people crave in a fantasy version of themselves. I mean pop artists are always a little over the top and
display a larger than life image, if you get me.
So what kind of person am I? (because one's music taste is a very personal thing) A innocent 90's kid. A kind person who loves music
with real emotion, displaying a happy sense and joyous nature to it. Music that sounds like the video game music that I grew up
with. I crave music with a childish innocence to it and a quirky sound. I'm attracted to beautiful female singers who do pop music
with a uplifting, sophisticated emotional delivery and who you can tell "are good people".
Now you can maybe see why nothing of the current ocean of pop talent does anything for me. But I'm a minority for sure.

Have to agree on the last point. The weekly trip to the record store was a highlight of my youth. Buying stuff over the web just isn't the same at all. What did you/do you teach with regard to music?

Very impressive - is it mainly orchestral percussion or jazz orientated?

Pink - Trash!
Katy Perry - Trash!
Taylor Swift - Nice voice but not for me (her personality doesn't fit the types of female singers
that I like)
Adele - Too whinny and her personality is too adult and pensive for me.
Lily Allen - Tacky and immature girl..sounds like a sucky version of Sia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjIcvDm1iC4
I don't like Sia either but she's got to be better than Lily Allen.
Right now I'm checking out a Czech vocalist named [h=1]Klára - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKvwA2rLX6Y[/h]I thought you guys might like her music. It's not really doing anything for me but I think
her voice is nice and the song is pretty.

The problem with all of these good looking babes is that they are manufactured! They can all sing but do they write their own songs? Not many!

Being mainly a pop guy myself, I understand that the main appreciation I have for the artists is not weather they can write their own
songs but how talented they are and how well the producers use their talent to make a wonderfully good album. I
have no problem with a decent pop artist who does not write any of her own material, as long as she's got a
interesting personality and a great voice. (and that the music sounds really cool to my liking)
There are a few pop artists who do write their own material that I love like some indie pop artists like Hafdis Huld and
that's cool but it's not a requirement for my enjoyment. You may think that I'm shorting my horizons and limiting
myself by just mainly listening to pop oriented music but the way I see it - it's all about my happiness and being
perfectly content with what I have, and I am. I have loads of great artists that are mostly all pop stuff and I never get
tired of hearing their music and I'm also quite good at discovering new great artists whenever the mood strikes.

Listen to these art, chamber, dream , indie, alternative , electronica pop female vocalists: Lana Del Rey, Julie Holter, St. Vincent (Annie Clark), Jenny Hval, Billie Lindahl, Anja Garbarek, Imelda May, Tune - Yards(Merrill Garbus),Sabina Sciubba and last but not least...Chelsea Wolfe,,(and then there's Joanna Newsom, brilliant artist,,,calls her music freak folk !!!!...lol)
There's so much great music out there , you'll never find a lot of it on the Top 40...The gals above have a large enough following,,,personal appearances mainly! Not big CD sales ! Nevertheless they are established pop artists who can create their own music!
