my Dad's singles collection....
DAVE STEWART & BARBARA GASKIN "its my party" B/W "waiting in the wings" 1981

this is not the Dave Stewart who worked with Annie Lennox, his name is Dave A. Stewart....
"A" side is a cover of the old classic...these two have 'hung, drawn and quartered' it IMO...
"B" side isnt much better...
single peaked at #4 in Austrlaia

VILLAGE PEOPLE "go west" B/W "citizens of the world" 1979

i was very dismissive of these guys back in the day, but over time, i must admit, i have
grown to like some of their singles(and i said 'like' and not 'love' overall)
this "A" side is cool stuff, as is the "B" side....
i was surprised to find this one never charted in Australia...strange considering their popularity
here was absolutely massive!

BUDDY HOLLY "baby i dont care" B/W "valley of tears" 1958

one of the greatest musicians from the early rock and roll days....
was the first musician to double-track his vocals and by the time he died he had a vault
of some 200 finished recordings that were unreleased...imagine what could have been had he not died so young.
im a big fan of buddy and love both sides of this single...
i cannot find any chart placings for this single in the UK,sorry

added bonus,
Elvis covered "baby i dont care" in his 1958 film "jailhouse rock", here's his brilliant version.
this was the 'real' Elvis before that mid 1970s 'fat version' ate him!
anyway, awesome clip, great choreography sequence, brilliant movie....

was a promo tool for an album, well, thats my guess anyway....

that my dad gave me i dont own nothing.
obviously without any info i cannot say whether this one charted in the UK or not.

I agree with your main thrust: This is sludge. But despite all the slatherings of hipness and modernity they tried to coat this with, the central tenet comes through: This woman was hurt by this guy's insensitive actions and his new mate just reveled in the attention and in bitch-slapping her> True since 10,000 B.C. or thereabouts.
