"A" side is brilliant IMO
"B" side is an instrumental which i dont like at all
single peaked at a lowly #27 in the UK, but hey, it was the era of Beatlemania.

VAL DOONICAN "ep" 1964
Irish crooner/traditional folk singer and occasional pop singer who also hosted and starred in a series of 'variety shows' on stage and tv in the UK...
four tracks on this 'ep'...
all of which have the same jovial/lightheartedness of your typical Burl Ives tunes like "goober peas" etc....you get the idea, right?
tracks are okay on a first up listen, but i think they would grow old really fast with repeatative listens
i cant find where this 'ep' charted in the UK
anyway, here's Val's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Val_Doonican

MARIO LANZA "the loveliest night of the year-ep" 1959
i know my dad liked Mario's films back in the day but im really not so sure he was ever an Opera fan....
im not fan of Opera or Opera singers but i can appreciate the time taken to train a voice to do what those
guys/gals do with complete control....
this is a three track 'ep'...
like i said, i dont like Opera, im not even sure how the experts would rate him alongside the Three Tenors
i cannot find where this single charted in the UK(if it ever did)....
here's Mario's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Lanza

BILLY FURY "do you really love me too?" B/W "what am i gonna do" 1963
late fifties/sixties UK rocker....
"A" side is as good as anything any other pop male solo artist was doing at the time...great song
and the "B" side is just as good...
single reached a lowly #13 in the UK charts(lowly by his standards)
here's Bill's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Fury

PET SHOP BOYS "west end girls" B/W "a man could get arrested" 1985
took these guys till their fourth single(this one) to start making an impact on Euro/Australian charts...
i always like these guys and their nice synth pop...their sound hasnt dated like a lot of other synth-pop bands from the UK
in that era....
"A" side is pretty good IMO
"B" side, i never liked this one from day one(i have this single in my own personal collection also)
single peaked at #5 here in Australia

.....still in the 1980s now with another synth-pop group from the UK
HUMAN LEAGUE "mirror man" B/W "you remind me of gold" 1982
not as good as the material off their sublime "dare" album(which incidently is my favourite synth-pop album by any artist)
"A" side is still pretty catchy as was all their material from 81-83...
"B" side, i own several of their singles myself and all their "B" sdies are nothing but drivel...throwaway songs!
single peaked at #4 in Australia
here's their Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Human_League

and we'll finish off this session with probably my favourite Beatle combined "A"/"B" sided single....
BEATLES "penny lane" B/W "strawberry fields forever" 1967
this single truly demonstrates the changing styles and changing musical interests of Paul and John....
"A" side is Paul's baby, pure radio friendly pop with a simplistic catchy tune and child-like nursery rhyme lyrics
"double AA" side is John's baby, a track full ofsurrealistic imagery and dreamlike lyrics that basically add up to nothing but everything
at the same time....
awesome chalk-and-cheese single from the two best songwriters not only of their generation bt of any generation of pop artists...
their first two singles,"love me do" and "please please me" peaked at #17 and #2 respectively in the UK,
their next eleven releases made it to #1, this one peaked at #2 for them in thier homeland, then their next seven all topped the charts also
no Wiki for these guys, obvious reason...if you dont know who these guys are, then you dont know music!
