So do a lot of Blues guys, because both musics speak to the same stratum of society, just different colors: the poor, the working poor, the down-trodden, the oppressed (most definitely including the self-oppressed), the misery-laden...It's not for me to to say what should be sung about--I am none of the above--but I do wish these topics (drinking, love of trucks) wouldn't dominate or or overwhelm any other parts of the Human Condition. No I'm not talking about the rage and misogyny (and other forms of hatred and violence) in Rap either. I do believe I'll work my way through the list today, it being Election Day and all...

Oh no!! You didn't upset me at all Holly!! God Bless You Too!! BTW, I don't drink anymore. I can't because of my health. Also Black Jack was a addiction to me. I don't see anything wrong with a drink once in awhile but I was hooked. Even Paul said a little wine for the stomach's sake. All I was saying was drinking has always been a huge part of country music. All of the legends that I remember sang about drinking. Kind of hard to separate drinking from country music. We just have to be careful not to let the drinking take control. I'm living proof that it can.

I've been listening to country since my first day on this planet and so I know that the subject of drinking has always had a huge presence in the music. I am just ready for the singers who have been keeping that part of the music alive lately to realize that it isn't the only thing on this planet to sing about it, but if it has to be sung about anyways, it would be great if they could be more realistic in their singing about it. If there really is any glitz and glamor to it at all, you would think that people in country music would be the first to point out that it isn't all glitter and shine, especially when too much alcohol consumption is the reason why so many people are not here anymore.

Marty sings Gospel now along with Bluegrass of course. Actually I waited too late to quit drinking Holly. The damage has already been done but it's still good I quit. Just wish I had quit sooner. I used to play cards with my family and drink all night and most of the day.
