Jerome Wrote:The only album of UB40's I ever liked was the first one - Signing Off. It was quite experimental as well. A real milestone. Minimalistic and groovy all at the same time. The rest was complete rubbish. What I could not stomach was that 'Reeeeeed Reeeeeed WHINE' crap. They had a brilliant formula and they abandoned it in favour of public acceptance and banal covers. Dumb shits. The biggest sell-out in the music business. Their well-documented tbanal coversrack record of how they treated people on their tours (in hotels etc.) is nothing to be proud of either.
i agree with you Jerome....
"signing off" was brilliant....
i did buy a few of their follow up albums on vinyl, and probably 20 of their singles on vinyl back in the day...
very few of the singles are listenable now as i found out when i played them last year in that singles thread i posted...
like you said.....banal covers
i would not be surprised if people like Marley,Tosh etc sold a lot more records after UB40 made the genre acceptable to the general population
