I agree with the tension/release and timbral development -these are the rules that explain why my electronic dance music tastes span so many different genres. Just been listening to some Bassline House (a Northern English sub-genre destroying dancefloors currently) in clubs and at the gym and the 'release' of the bass drop is really making me crazy at the moment (cue Jungle-screw face) while supplying a good 4/4 fix.
