GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS ~ All That You Can Dream

Lush layers of gentle dreamy sound, intelligent lyrics that capture life’s various conundrums, cautionary tales and circumstances – big subjects addressed without bitterness – it’s like being wrapped up in a bedtime story, all snug and warm – maybe a bit too comfy from a musical interest perspective, however, I really like GLP and his whole vibe, so I enjoyed this new release.
There are no big hooks or particularly funky moments and it feels settled – mature – full, rounded and imperfect. GLP followers are going to love it, I’m sure - the uninitiated perhaps not so much. You’ll either like his mode of expression, or not. He’s definitely carved out a niche for himself in the annals of Americana, I’d say, oh, and another thing – he’s a craftsman, and that’s lovely – he doesn’t just churn stuff out, it’s all done with great care (imperfections included). Created over the past couple of years with plenty of time for introspection and having to find different ways of being.

"Peace is a Delicate Thing" - in places, something in it puts me in mind of Neil Young, from way back ...
