NEW ALBUM: GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS ~ All That You Can Dream - Ruby - 21-05-2022 GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS ~ All That You Can Dream Lush layers of gentle dreamy sound, intelligent lyrics that capture life’s various conundrums, cautionary tales and circumstances – big subjects addressed without bitterness – it’s like being wrapped up in a bedtime story, all snug and warm – maybe a bit too comfy from a musical interest perspective, however, I really like GLP and his whole vibe, so I enjoyed this new release. There are no big hooks or particularly funky moments and it feels settled – mature – full, rounded and imperfect. GLP followers are going to love it, I’m sure - the uninitiated perhaps not so much. You’ll either like his mode of expression, or not. He’s definitely carved out a niche for himself in the annals of Americana, I’d say, oh, and another thing – he’s a craftsman, and that’s lovely – he doesn’t just churn stuff out, it’s all done with great care (imperfections included). Created over the past couple of years with plenty of time for introspection and having to find different ways of being. There’s a good, comprehensive write-up on Bandcamp which I just went and looked at – this is from that ... "My wife said the album is very dreamlike, and feels very internal and personal," he says. "It's the kind of record where when we were growing up, we probably would have enjoyed listening to it on headphones, going within ourselves. In some ways, maybe I was taking inventory of the arc of my work up to this point. "Peace is a Delicate Thing" - in places, something in it puts me in mind of Neil Young, from way back ... (cover artwork painting of headphones and the painting on the previous link both done by himself - his 30 year-old cans )  RE: NEW ALBUM: GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS ~ All That You Can Dream - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-05-2022 another very good review Ruby, great stuff for reading whilst sipping my first cup of coffee on a Sunday morn' and even more pleasant to listen to on a Sunday morning also..... really liked the title track, couldnt help thinking of Julian Lennon in places (must have been the word phrasing, or certain words). second track really did sound reminiscent of early Uncle Neil for sure (debut album material)... will have to investigate this one further....
