BILL HALEY & HIS COMETS "rock around the clock" B/W "shake rattle and roll" 1955, first of the 78s from the pre 45" days

this one is recognised as being the first real "rock and roll" song in many circles...
strange that "shake rattle and roll" was the B-side here in the UK, it eventually had its own "A" listing a couple of years later on 45" single...
the single stayed at #1 for nine weeks over two sittings in the UK
here's Bill's Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Haley

CHUBBY CHECKER "chubby checker's dancin' party-'ep'" 1962

very little info to go on for this release other than its a four track 'ep' that contains four of his UK single "A" sides....
the UK market did that a lot in the 1960s....release 'ep' discs of previous singles, i suspect it was to fill in gaps between future releases...
as such, this one didnt make the UK charts, probably because most people who wanted these tracks had previously purchased the single version...
love three of the tracks on here, the other one entitled "the fly", i like also, but that annoying persistant sound of a fly buzzing round spoils it for me...
great set of tracks overall though, and a good artist also....

LITTLE TONY & HIS BROTHERS "teddy girl" B/W "kiss me,kiss me" 1960

a UK rocker who never really had any real continued chart success....
"A" side is a fast rocker which mirrors the sound of the US rockers around that time, i like it!
"B" side is a ballad, i like that one also...
sounds like the guy was pretty good but was one of many musical casualties that never made it.
looks like this one never charted in the UK or anywhere else for that matter, but i like it!

BLONDIE "the tide is high" B/W "suzie & jeffrey" 1980

moving foreward a couple of decades again now....
my dad loved Blondie back in the day so its not surprising he has them in his singles collection...
i was never a fan of this group in any way, shape or form...
so its pretty obvious i do not like these tracks here...
we were in Australia when this was released and purchased, it peaked at #4 here
here's Blondie's Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blondie_(band)

ROY ORBISON "too soon to know" B/W "you'll never be sixteen again" 1966

Roy is/was one of my Dad's favourite artists of all-time(up there with Jim Reeves and Slade in his opinion)....
until i googled this single i had no idea what the "A" side was, lucky for e, i love the "A" side but i dont like the "B" side, which is unusual for me
as im a pretty big Big-O kinda guy myself....
the single peaked at #3 on the UK charts back in the day but didnt really make much of an impression elsewhere....
here's Roy's Wiki pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Orbison

Even a casual fan of Roy Orbison will like this tribute CD/DVD package. Springsteen put this together as loving homage to one of his heroes. Excellent job, one for the ages.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcHZfebLFxc

LITTLE RICHARD & HIS BAND "volume 5"-ep

a collection of four of his UK singles repackaged into an "ep" because they didnt sell as individual discs when released seperately...
nothing wrong with any of these tracks really, but not really his "long tall sally" sounds but pleasant just the same
this "ep" didnt chart in the UK

THE MOODY BLUES "go now!" B/W "its easy child" 1964

the Moody's first charting single in the UK....
Denny Laine on vocal duties here, later with Wings in the 1970s...
"A" side is one of the top10 singles from the 1960s IMO...absolute class!
"B" side...another great track that i'd not heard previously.
this one made it to #1 in the UK and rightfully so!
ive just found out that "go now" was a cover of a song by a US r+b singer called Bessie Banks
here's the MB's Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moody_Blues
