Did not expect Shania Twain or Meatloaf to be on the list above 40 million copies.
3 from the 80's
2 from the 90's
5 from the 70's

I rest my case.......'77 was some year for the industry!

I knew Shania was very big in the 90s ! The Canadian lass was everywhere !

In or about 1984 when the Compact Disc came to fruition, everyone I knew or music magazines I read definitely recommended Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon as their definite first choice to play on their CD system !... and yes J, 3 biggies from 1977 !

Funny you should say that - I think DSOTM was my first CD as well.

im sure The Bodyguard will sell a couple more million over the next couple of months with Whiney's departure a couple of weeks ago...

also, Michael Jackson's "bad" sold some 38million from memory...so he did bloody well to get two of the biggest sellers ever...

i am going to get the list of the 10 biggest selling studio albums later today after work, as like MH, not impressed by 'soundtracks' in the list, nor "best of" sets(the eagles)

i listened to Infidels first, then Sgt.Peppers from memory, got them in 1987 with my first cd player that coincided with the cd release of Sgt.Peppers

I remember being in college radio in 1982, and we were sent a CD player and copy of Billy Joel's 52nd street to play on it. It was the time when anaolg and digital began to live side by side for a few years before digital really exploded. As for Dark Side, I think the first CD issue was kinda lame in the sound quality department and all those recommendations to buy it were to help promote the rise of digital. The 2007 and 2011 remasters are really good, so the problems and early limitations have been errased. So... what the hell was this thread about anyway? Oh. best selling stuff... I own five on the list. Wanna guess which five?

I'll take a stab - Floyd, Meatloaf, Mac, ACDC & Eagles. How did I do?
