LYNNE HAMILTON "on the inside" 1980. #91Aust. vinyl.

its amazing what you can find out when you know nothing about an artist and need to write something.
who is Lynne Hamilton? you may ask, well, some of you may know her from her days as part of The Caravelles in the mid 1960s, or at least know of them,The Caravelles had a few decent hits in the '60s, the biggest of which was "you dont have to be a baby to cry" which was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1963 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw_9xU8ATBI audio,#3US, #6UK, #48Aust.
in 1971, Lynne moved to Queensland,Australia and steadily built up her career via club and caberet shows, then in 1979 she was asked to perform the theme song for the Aussie womens prison drama series "prisoner"(retitled "cell block H" in the UK), that song, "on the inside", became a huge hit in Aust and UK. after that Lynne started her own Evangelical Church in her home State of QLD, where she still delivers sermons to this day, she is still recording, but only Gospel albums.
this album isnt too bad, theres touches of pop "on my toes again", a song that sounds very similar to Captain and tenille in "every song for you", "getting into love" could pass for an early 70s Supremes track, a couple of country crossover tracks, a Beatles cover, and of course the hit single "on the inside".

I DONT MIND THIS ALBUM

ADELE "21", 2011.

this album has been out for about three weeks here in Australia, a fortnight everywhere else...why is that?? it seems to happen a lot.

so i have been able, over the last few days, to listen to it a few times..while on the net as background music, in car, at work, on ipod and really listening to its merits with phones on my head with no distractions, and i cant for the life of me find much wrong with it, the same as its predeccessor "19". both albums have that rare quality of sounding like being aquainted with an old friend, yet theres still something new and mysterious in each track to keep it refreshing.

"21" follows the same soul cum pop formula as "19", only this time the music is more chunky/fuller on the whole, thanks to great production work by Rick Rubin and Paul Epworth(florence and the machine). thus the sound has a lot more percussion and bass, depth and completeness, the music is tight, yet loose at the same time.

Adele's vocals are magnificent to say the least whether she is rock'n'soul-ing it up like Wanda Jackson on "rumour has it", or caressing her way over beautiful ballads like "someone like you" or "dont you remember". she even manages a brilliant bosa-nova(ish) cover of The Cure's "lovesong".

this is a classy affair, to say the least, and with two great albums behind her she has the world at her feet, should she continue to improve with age.

my prediction: next years Grammy's could be, and should be Adele's.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

liked all of this except for maybe the Cure cover.
On that one, the original is just too good, and I'm pretty picky on my covers.
Best were the first and last, probably because being on Ellen and Jools, the sound was good.
Others, I'm sure would be much better with the studio recording.

thanks

Barrys sixth studio album and around his peak period, with four hit singles from here. Those were Can't Smile Without You (#3), Copacabana (#8) Even Now (#19) and Somewhere In The Night (#9). Those were all top tracks for me also along with A Linda Song. Nothing here I do not like. The album reached #3 in the states and was his first to hit the charts in the U.K. at #12. Copacabana is considered disco by some. If so it may be my favorite disco song ever. It has lyrics with a theme. Poor Tony. Surprised clips were only available for half of these. Must be the hatred of Barrys success.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - I Was A Fool (To Let You Go)

Best Track - Can't Smile Without You

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brighten my day
Who would of believed that you where part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when your sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile

Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard leaving your love behind me

And you see I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

i only have a 'best of' Barry album, very underrated writer IMO.

as for Adele, when i find the real album tracks and not acoustic versions, i'll re-post them....being a new album it sometimes takes a bit of time for people to upload to youtube
