What Are You Listening To?

ANNIE LENNOX  "medusa" cd, 1995

her second solo album...
a covers album...
some obvious choices and some not so obvious choices of song selection...
a couple i am not keen on but her vocals still shine through just the same..
a decent album overall...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

FAVE, a cover of a track by British duo The Lover Speaks:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ABBA  "voules-vouz"  cd,  1979.

a revisit...
i have owned this cd for a long time now.
i originally purchased it for the singles from it and my love of the follow up album "super trouper"...
sadly this album never really did it for me, i always thought it to be quite bland and so-so over all
but today it felt like a light finally switched on in my head to this album and i have got to say,
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

HARRY STYLES  "harry's house"  cd, 2022

his third solo set...
didnt form part of my EOY list as i only picked it up in the new year when it was on special as part of the usual Boxing Day sales which extend into early january...
shame i didnt listen to it fully when it was released and MH posted it because it sucked...
lots of pop and r+b and lots of autotune (something not evident in his previous works)...
probably the worst album of his career thus-so-far and a huge disappointment after his first two solo albums.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ABBA  "super trouper"  vinyl/cd  1980.

a revisit of a classic album IMO...
their seventh studio album...
my favourite of theirs (with the follow up 'the visitors' a close up second)...
love just about every track on here and liking the remaining three i do not love...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

this track just keeps on growing on me even after all these decades and was only ever released as a single in Equador and Argentina.

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

RIHANNA  "good girl gone bad" 2007

not mine,
borrowed from a friend...
Rihanna's third of eight, i own a couple though...
was surprised by the amount of guitar driven songs on here which almost qualify as rock...
album has clocked in almost 10million sales...
nothing on here i didnt like and even a couple i loved upon first listen...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite was actually a single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

P!NK  "trustfall" cd, 2023

borrowed from a friend to listen to this weekend in the car...
P!nk's nineth, i own the first eight at this stage with this one to follow at some point this year....
a solid album filled with ballads and a couple of pop/dance type tunes...
album gets better with each listen i give it...
and would almost certainly be amongst her best for me now...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

the third and latest single lifted from the album with another great live performance  from Ms Alicia Moore,

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

FREDDIE MERCURY  "mr bad guy"  1985

borrowed from a friend...
had never heard this before so its all new for me apart from a couple of singles i remember from back in the day...
had to put it in pop because it is closer to pop than rock...
was pleasantly surprised after all the negativity for this one over the years...
love Freddie's voice throughout and the songs are decent enough but the synths and electronica let it down a bit...
nothing to not like over all as every track is passable..
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite track wasnt even issued as a single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ABBA   "ring ring" vinyl, 1973

from the "studio albums vinyl box set"...
their debut album of nine,
i will go through each album in chronological order over the next two weeks or so...
original released in Sweden not by ABBA but by Bjorn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida a year earlier...
interesting the amount of tracks sung by the guys on this one...
album was a hit in their homeland and Australia only, making triple platinum in the latter...
an album which shows glimpses of the potential of the class that was to come later down the road to success...
Wiki says eight singles were lifted off it over a period of 15 months so they sure were eager for hits...
so overall, not a bad album with nothing i cannot listen to but slightly too much of a muchness...
would score around 1.7 if i had to rank it...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite is the title track...

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

nothing to not like on here and my fave wasnt even released as a single.

HILARY DUFF  "hilary duff"  2004

borrowed from a good friend...
her third of five studio albums...
i know who Duff is but i am not familiar with her music career...
had no expectations so i had no compass bearings for her...
pleasantly surprised for the most part especially the heavier rock type numbers...
decent pop on here also, girl has a decent voice too...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave was not even issued as a single:
