i mentioned the other day we never hear how South Africa is going despite the amount of ex-pats here and then bugger me,
i wake up 15 minutes ago (4am) turn on the news and it is all about SA and the alcohol ban, which like you said, is caused by people putting a strain on medical services because theyre 'acting badly' under the influence.

remembering when all this covid started
liquor stores were considered essential and not required to shutdown
just thought that was hilarious
these are all state decisions
now we are at the masks required when in public rule
I'll comply for now

The thing I found funny at the beginning was that while foods and toilet paper etc were in short supply that stores always had ample supply of cigarettes and alcohol, no shortages there!?!?, they obviously had their priorities right!!

Scratch my previous comment about antibody tests. That's not going to work, apparently. Seems as though the entire planet is flying blind right now. So much confusing and conflicting information.

Not sure if anyone noticed pages of repeat posting by me. No idea what happened here. Sorry!

looks like Covid has gotten worse since i left a week or so ago...
record new infections in every region on the planet.
experts say this will equate to record death rates in the next three or so weeks time.
and this is still the first wave of the disease!
scary stuff.

Chatting to the local pharmacist the other day who said there has been less regular flu around this year. They are presuming that this is due to an increased awareness of hygiene, not least handwashing.
Schools had been re-opened, if not at full throttle – twice a week for my child – closed again now. I feel very sorry for parents of younger kids. It’s hectic – especially if they don’t have access to online learning, which many millions don’t.
Our confirmed cases are on the rise, however, many more have recovered than are presently ill. Total Confirmed Cases 421,996 – Deaths - 6,343 – Recoveries - 245,771 – Active Cases - 169,882.
We are required to wear masks in public places and will be refused entrance to shops etc., unless wearing one; no alcohol or tobacco sales (legal, that is – there’s a burgeoning black market going on - previously law abiding citizens have turned criminal overnight!) and there’s a curfew between 21h00 and 05h00. Most restaurants / hotels / guesthouses have taken a huge knock and pubs and taverns are throwing in the towel daily – some of the oldest establishments in Cape Town are closing their doors which is sad. Many, many lost jobs and people set adrift. We may still not gather or hold events (other than church services and funerals), fair enough, but there are also some double standards and illogical rulings at play. All rather exhausting.
I really, really don’t want this virus, assuming I haven’t already had it, which seems possible, if unverifiable, as the antibodies disappear after a couple of weeks. With such limited comms in 1918, I wonder how they kept track of that pandemic? There seem to be definitive stats - how'd they do that? Pretty sure we aren’t on top of everything now, even with advanced technology. Guess we’ll see how things unfold in time.

we are very lucky here in West Australia. 656 cases, 9 deaths, 642 recovered cases and only 5 current cases with no new ones recorded in the last seven days.
luckily, people have been taking it seriously since day one, the State Government has stood firm against outside influences and we are doing very well at the moment. and it helps when both political parties (incumbent and opposition are working together on this instead of playing political point scoring games)

so Doja Cat (rapper) had been saying Covid was the flu and anyone who takes precautions is a "pussy"....
well, that was until she caught it and admits she was scared until she got over it...LOL
