Covid-19
Not a big fan of the Beatles or McCartney but I thought Band On The Run was a stroke of genius. Have not really listened to many of his solo albums. My late brother was a Beatles nut so I was exposed to many of their albums but it was when he brought home Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' from one of his stints in a submarine in the SA Navy that I sat up and took notice. Blew me away. Still does - even after all these years. I will never forget hearing 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' for the first time. I was completely mesmerised. Didn't understand what it was about at the time but that was part of it's appeal. I was thirteen or fourteen years old at the time and it opened a door to a whole new wonderful world. One I am still exploring.

we never hear anyhting about SA on our news, which is surprising considering the amount of ex-pats who reside here.

how is the whole Covid thing going over there...deaths, infection rates, lockdown etc.

Australia's Deputy Chief Medical Officer has given a chilling warning about Covid...

theres no way to eliminate C-19 until the entire world has had four incubation periods (8wks) without a new case and that is highly unlikely.
he also says that the only way to defeat it is total vaccination, not exactly what people would have been hoping to hear i guess.

Lockdown has ceased to be, more or less. Still no cigarette sales allowed so everyone is buying them on the black market and paying ridiculous prices (and no taxes) - alcohol is sold from Monday to Thursday, restaurants are open but can't sell liquor (except as takeaways - not for consumption on the premises), we must wear masks in public places, aren't supposed to visit friends but can go to church (you can imagine the religious ceremonies going on!), beaches are still supposedly not open but everyone's on them anyway, certain protocols for certain businesses - some abide by them, some don't. Not sure anyone really has control of anything at this stage - pretty much a free for all!

I don't believe any of the numbers are accurate, but for what it's worth, we have 264,184 confirmed cases so far, 3,971 deaths and 127,715 recoveries. I'm sure there are many more cases that are unconfirmed as our testing is not up to scratch - we need an antibody test IMHO. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

you say "black market", its already been renamed the "grey market" here, black seems to be a no-go word nowadays!

WOW 34,000+ deaths and we never hear that, only the so-called 'big players'

Geez, stay safe Ruby, and thanks for the update

Australian scientists begin trials on humans for a vaccine to C-19.
at least a year of testing is required before results are known.
i hate to say it but over the next year theres probably a good chance that one of us here at MD could contract it (or at least on a best case scenario know someone who has it)

My sincere apologies. Must have been having a moment!  Blush Rolleyes

We've been sent to the naughty corner. Announced last night - no more booze sales, with immediate effect - a complete ban for 8 weeks - badly behaved people placing too much of a strain on the hospitals and emergency services etc., plus a curfew - we may not be out after 21h00 and before 04h00. Here goes the home brewing fraternity again. There was no yeast to be found anywhere at one stage - not a single grain. Gone. No pineapples either - a sought after commodity reaching dizzy heights in pricing - doesn't take too long to make beer from them, apparently.
