our commercials here are largely insurance companies and drug companies
both scum to me

^Same story here - and they persist in calling to tout for business. How bloody rude.

Just wondering how these lockdowns are ever going to be able to end?? Or end well, I should say. Seems like spaceship earth is flying blind right now. Mind you - nothing much has changed then!

Sorry to see that Marianne Faithfull has been hospitalized with the virus, and Christopher Cross has it too - also looks as though there are plenty of people not making it into the official stats which basically means that nobody actually knows the true extent of this thing.

We all have our faults and vices but gambling has never been an option for me. In fact I have never been in a casino in my life. I just can't see the attraction at all. Fool's Gold.
ouch!! that hurt
now I feel stupid
been playing the ponies for 50 years
of course it's all on the computer these days so no betting shops
never used a bookie in my life
went to a casino once about 20 years ago
that was enough for me
but the horses must be in the blood
started going with dad when I was a teen
watched him perusing those past performance lines
trying to pick the winner
there's some analytical stuff going on there
I like playing with numbers
horse racing let's me do that
I play the minimum bet, usually $2
sometimes I win, sometimes I lose
it's entertainment
so won't you please tell the man
I didn't kill anyone
I'm just trying to have me some fun

My late father was big into horses. Never rubbed off on me though. Many, many years ago he was losing quite a bit at the races. In frustration he picked 4 rank outsiders for the jackpot. (Four races and you have to pick the winner in all four). The rank outsiders were in the order of 33 to 1. The first three races all his rank outsiders won - and the last race came down to a photo finish. His horse came second. He used to talk about that day for years and years after the event. And yes MH the ponies are an analytical thing. My old man used to study them for hours on end. He was also a numbers guy. Could divide and multiply faster than I could with a calculator. Never quite figured out how he managed to do that. I am absolutely useless with numbers.

This woman just irritates me no end. Her shows are complete rubbish.

Spaceship Earth is in an uncontrolled nosedive. And people STILL aren't listening. Here in Ireland, people are complaining because they can't go to their holiday homes (boo hoo) over the Easter weekend even though some have already gone. Hello people??? You're alive! Have you heard of Covid-19? Or are you really so stupid as to think a weekend away is more important than your life? And no, you can't get laid either. Or go and have a private party with friends. Or go shopping. For God's sakes grow up!

totally,
some people are simply Dickheads.

I usually go see my parents every 7-10 days, usually take them out for a coffee or lunch.
we simply haven't been able to do it for three weeks now...

but Duh people....we have a piece of technology called the telephone
and for now, that will have to suffice.
and we've already discussed, no Easter, no Mothers Day, no birthdays, no Fathers Day (because this will last that long).
we are hoping Christmas will be back on and we will make up for it all then....maybe?

Our lockdown has been extended from three to five weeks which is not unexpected - it's likely to be even longer, IMHO. Tough times lie ahead! Don't know how people are going to survive the financial fallout. Lentils loom large. On the other hand, a lockdown can't just summarily end - there would be no point in having done it in the first place.

The president and all ministers have taken a 33% pay cut for the next three months and that money will be donated to a solidarity fund that's been set up to provide relief for the most needy. Let's hope they actually receive the benefit! I must say, he gave another fairly impressive address this evening and to give credit where it's due - they seem to be approaching the whole thing in as calculated and scientific a manner as possible, and with gravitas. There are always one or two aberrant and arrogant individuals, of course, like the minister who popped in to see a disgraced ex minister for brunch under the pretext of collecting essential items for distribution, and then posted pictures of the occasion all over social media. She's been suspended - should have been dismissed altogether.
