Which band had the biggest/longest lasting impact? (OTHER THAN THE BEATLES)
#1
Many bands have had huge influences on the music industry and in many different ways. Bands like Led Zeppelin influenced hard rock/heavy metal more than any other while bands like Queen and Pink Floyd impacted pop, rock, funk, and a few others because they touched on every genre. Not only that they have maintained their popularity throughout the years. Til' this day i know many teens and others under 25 that listen to Pink Floyd and Queen and even class them as some of their favorite bands.

In my opinion i think overall Queen had the biggest influence of any band. Their songs have been sampled for countless songs (many of which were rap songs which one would never expect) as well as many others. Kids are born knowing "We Will Rock You" their innovation and combinations of operatic sounds, pop/rock fusion, funk rock/funk pop sounds, hard rock/heavy metal, and are the only band next to The Beatles to come out with great pop songs like Under Pressure and Another One Bites the Dust and still be considered a great rock band. That not only shows versatility, bit shows great talent as well.

I think the Grateful Dead had a huge impact on the music industry. They were responsible for the trend of bands starting their own record companies and showed the industry how important merchandising is. Their business model was incredible, they made more $ than most groups in their heyday and sold fewer albums than any. Musically they are responsible for an entire genre of music - Jam Band, and to this day they continue to be extremely popular with college age listeners.

Besides the very obvious choice of The Beatles, Bob Dylan has influenced countless musicians...starting folk rock with Highway 61 Revisted and inspiring artists to write their own songs. I weigh their influence by the amount of songs they've had covered by others!...Dylan and The Beatles have been covered extensively by other artists!

Dylan and the Fab Four will be chronicled in music history for many many years!!!!!!!!!!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
