Was listening to a Phil Collins track on the radio today and noticed that the decay on the snare was very short - a kind of 'gated' sound. Very effective if you don't want the resonance of the snare to crowd out other instruments. (the track was 'Easy Lover'). Although Mr Collins seems to be the target of ridicule - or so he says anyway - he was a brilliant drummer.

have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the technical side of music Jerome...
but although i am not a great fan of Genesis/Collins i think he is a fine drummer....
love that "face values" solo set of his, very atmospheric and sparse/distant sound qualities to it IMO which shine more on cd than on vinyl

 what you talkn bout Willis? (Sorry - no offence - just one of those sayings of Gary Coles that sticks in my mind).
so anyhow...Jerome..I have no clue as to what you are trying to say - like CH...not techinically talented when it comes to musical instruments. Can play Piano and thats all.
Phil Collins is a superb Drum Player and singer alike IMO...his fave of mine would have to be 'In the Air Tonight'. It is just so...clear and crisp? probs not the right words to use...but yeah...the clarity of the entire song is just so brilliant.
