old bands new music?

Then again if they don"t do the whole "new music" thing then they get ragged on for "just doing the same thing". It's kind of a lose lose situation if you"re a good enough band to stick around. If you change then you"re not staying true to your roots and if you don"t change then you"re not creative or "up with the times". However, I will always applaud "old bands" for keeping in the music scene in some way, shape, or form, I like that it shows commitment and determination.

However, I know that ^^^ is not true in all cases, and it is just a general statement. Please no one jump down my throat again. I am merely stating that based on personal experience and understandable emotion comparison. (that sounds much more girly than intended, I only mean that I understand where people are coming from when they say thing like "it's the same thing they've always done") I understand what and why they're saying it, I do not, however, agree. That's all I'm sayin.

im only 15 so my generation is new music and i hate it. personally nothing will ever surpass the 70's 80's rock and roll scene hopefully someday one band with stand out and take us back to the old days so i can see what it was like for now ill enjoy going to see the godfathers of rock and metal.

Given that most bands cannot be infinitely creative, I'd say I have the most respect for those who stay true to their own sound, and keep providing a quality product. In my opinion, Slayer is a good example of this: All of their albums are basically the same since they reached their creative peak in the mid 80s, but they still put out a listenable product (assuming you like their sound), and haven't lost their edge. You can only listen to Reign in Blood so many times; but you don't have to, because any one of their subsequent albums is close enough.

Open up a new Slayer album, and you know what you're going to get. Open up a Metallica album after 1991, or a Rush album after 1982, and you don't know what the hell you're going to get; and there's a pretty good chance it will be significantly below the standard of Master of Puppets or Moving Pictures, respectively.

As for someone like Rod Stewart, God bless him for staying out there and doing what he loves. But saying I have the same respect for his lounge lizard music--or whatever the hell he's doing these days--as I do for his Faces era material would be lying to the old bastard.

Yes, Slayer have released good albums after Reign in Blood but this only applies to the ones Dave Lombardo plays the drums on. Bostaph and Dette were veritable letdowns.

A good example of an old band that came back was Floyd. Their 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' album was well below par but 'The Division Bell' was a return to form. And a bloody good one too.

Hey J,

Division Bell is an awesome album ! Without Waters, Momentary Lapse of Reason was very hard rock/heavy but I liked it also ! Pink Floyd have always been totally creative, original and interesting ! It's a shame that they have stopped touring ! I really hoped that I would see them live one day !
