U.S. Military jazz bands
#1
Emphasizing big-band jazz, here are the 2 premier outfits: one Air Force, the other Army. If your idea of military bands is marching bands or oom-pah outfits, this'll show you different (both service branches have those traditional outfits too).
The U.S. Army Field Band sub-group The Jazz Ambassadors only 1 album but it's a pip; AMG unrated http://www.armyfieldband.com/pages/ensembles/ja.html Not sure where they are based but probably DC-area
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHE4QzyaIZ0 << My man on the Latin percussion is gettin down, folks!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCD6fJlP5A0 << Nice narrative, then the tune
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkqEOfEBLZo << Low-quality vid but the music comes through
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_OnlISL-9w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49Th3W3zNzw << Play well with others, yes?

BONUS: If you want to know more, check this--an hour + on how they do what they do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CH-IE99ZvU

The U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note In the tradition of Glenn Miller's WW II band but not bound by it. Search for them here for their Christmas CD; they've a few other albums too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Airmen_of_Note

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldWxs2dMBfw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNqqAvFsxMc << couple of smokin' solos on this

Thing of it is: 1) All members of both groups are full-on military with all pay, benefits and entitlements, including retirement after 20 years or so; 2) When not touring and if it doesn't interfere with other assigned duties, many gig around Baltimore-DC area or write or privately instruct or...; 3) competition is fierce to get into these groups because of both elements mentioned--no mutts or mediocrities need apply.

Big thanks, SteveO. I didn't mean to shirk other countries' bands--I knew they had to exist; I just did not want to do the work to find and present them. Please modify the Thread title to "...and World". Those squids* swing their collective a$$es$ off. http://stadband.ca/index.html
Any body else? All are warmly invited to share in and share with us this niche music from wherever.

* Derisive word US Marines use as a descriptor for Navy folk...when we're sober and sorta polite. Later in the evening though...
