Years ago there were several female led vocal bands or at least bands with females singing in them. Some examples were : - Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane), Annie and Nancy Wilson (Heart), Mama Cass/Michelle Phillips (Mamas and the Papas), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Siouxshie Sioux and the Banshees, Lisa Gerrard(Dead Can Dance), Annie Haslam (Renaissance), Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Linda Simpson(Magna Carta...thanks Gryph !)),and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts...to name a few !
Today's music industry seems to saturated with solo female vocalists. The only prominent female vocalist that comes to mind is Florence Welch (and the Machine). The Decemberists have female vocals and The Antlers don't..... but they sound like it. Do you know of any female vocal bands with a stable band behind them ? I don't mean "girl groups"..Destiny's Child, etc....!
There are two female fronted metal groups Kittie and Arch Enemy and many others I know of, as well as the female lead goth singers...Amy Lee, Sharon van Edel, Simone Simons, Christina Scabbia, etc... but here I am talking about rock, alternative, indie groups ?????
Could you please name female fronted/female vocal groups of recent times !!!!!
