George Michael dead:
#21
all will be worth it when it arrives bob_32, a very good mature album from Mr Michael...

BTW,
how much did you pay for it because JB has it for $14 at the moment?

More than that. Not a lot more, not nearly as much as some sellers were advertising.

I tried JB some time ago, placed an order for them to get it in and after about a month they told me they were unable to obtain it. Oh well, they missed out on a sale. Waiting endlessly in the hope of saving a few dollars is pointless.

everytime ive tried to order from JB they end up sending an email saying the same thing, I refuse to order online with them now, nothing but delay after delay after excuse!
I have ordered instore before and its there within three maybe four weeks at the most, but mostly, if they don't have what I want, I simply wait.

I always found CD-WOW a good reliable place to get cds online and usually orders over $60 from memory) included free postage, look them up next time you want
an online cd purchase.

your nearest JB would be Midland, right?,
lousy store, very little in the way of cds there, I go to Carousel (Cannington), but even their cd section has shrunk with the advent of them selling white goods now.

CrazyHorse, I have shopped at JB HiFi many times, both instore and online, and this online order is the first time I did not get what I wanted. On this particular occasion I believe they were simply out of it. Hey, I have stopped stressing about it, OK? I will soon have the CD in my hot little mitt.

Midland is well out of my way. There are several JB stores much closer to me, including at least three in the Perth CBD.

Have you tried Discogs, CH? Discogs is different from other online retailers such as Amazon or CD-Wow. Much of the stuff is secondhand, though often it's in mint condition. If it's a relatively unknown release I am more likely to find it on Discogs than anywhere else. Even if the other sites have it, I can often get it much cheaper on Discogs.

By the way, if you are ever in Melbourne, check out a store called Basement Discs, located in the Block Arcade. One can browse there for hours.

never tried Discogs, have looked it up, looks pretty good.

haven been to Melbourne in nearly 30 years, if im ever over that way I will take a look, my daughter lives there, she has mentioned Basement Discs to me on several occasions,
that's where she apparently goes for her music

Enjoy following your discussion... Seems you live Poles apart. Au is way to stretched to be one single country, isn't it? (I know Steve, don't mention it)
AU & NZ tho, has for ages been destinations in my to-visit bucket but something always seem to interfere...

I want to ask about "Songs From the Last Century". I did not bother investigating it because I read some rather poor reviews of it - one reviewer said that "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was the only track that really stood out. However on radio last week I heard his rendition of "I Remember You", a song I have always disliked, and I was rather taken with Michael's treatment. I came to the conclusion that my dislike was because of Frank Ifield's half-yodelling countryish style rather than the song itself.

Is anyone familiar with this album, and if so what do you think of it?

An update on my Patience purchase:

After waiting over a month from the date on which it was supposedly shipped for the disc to arrive, I contacted the seller and after a bit of discussion he cancelled the order and refunded my money.

That was a week ago. This morning the CD appeared in my letterbox. The envelope bore a sticker to the effect that it had been opened by Australian Customs. A slip insde informed me that they had found nothing untoward and nothing had been removed.

Presumably it took them about three weeks to decide that my package contained nothing suspicious.

I never had this happen before. I wonder if it was randomly chosen for inspection, or whether they specifically target items from The Netherlands?

Anyway, all's well that ends well; I now have the album, which you may recall is titled "Patience".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

CH asked how much I paid for it. Total outlay was 16.40 euros, or A$22.55 at today's exchange rate. Of that, 8.90 euro ($12.24) was for the CD itself and the remainder for shipping. So you see it's definitely worth it if it's an item I can't obtain locally. Of course I wasn't to know the guy was going to shuffle off the coil the day after I placed my order.
