I didn't see a thread or sticky for favorites in regard to a particular instrument, and I am on a piano and drums kick as of late.
SO, who are your favorite pianists and drummers of the Jazz persuasion??
Piano = Bud Powell
Drums = Art Blakey

I really don't have favourites in jazz because there are so many intelligent musicians in this genre.....but if I narrow it down to two players for mainstream jazz as opposed to free jazz , I'd have to pick my Canadian compatriot Oscar Peterson on piano and the drummer always will be Buddy Rich !

pianists..Theloneous Monk ,Herbie Hancock , Mcoy Tyner, Les Mccan, Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Errol Garner, George Shearing, ...immediately spring to mind but there are a lot more wonderfull jazz pianists to add to that... drummers ..Buddy Rich , Shelley Manne, Jack Dijonette, Kenny Clare ,Kenny Clarke, Phil Seaman ,Tony Williams, Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Billy Cobham, The baron John von Olmann, , and the list goes on brilliant drummers..

That's a great tune, Jerome, and one that is under appreciated by people firmly and only entrenched in jazz. It's the perfect balance between jazz and pop sensibility.
