Deep Soul Singerrs - jazzboCR - 04-06-2014 These folks wrench it up from the guts and put it all out there, sometimes painfully; Wilson Pickett sure qualifies but so does Lee Moses (understand, these were performers who had to get folks who had endured yet another week of grinding misery, to get outside themselves for an hour or so, to maybe share in another's pain and exhilarate on the dancefloor)--I'm not over-thinking this--I've been there. Lee Moses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YBdr5vVqvs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL04E1APQnY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxOwD-EtjXw << "...,She robbed me of all my pride..." I don't consider Motown as soul music--it's pop music dressed up in soul clothes. The individual artists were soulful enough but Berry Gordy, Jr. ran a smooth, well-oiled machine that had carefully constructed pop. BTW, Michael Jackson--same thing. He wasn't the "King of Soul" but the "King of Pop". A thin line maybe and not a bright line but a line nonetheless. Kinda reminds me of the '50's pop stars doing R&B, all smoothed and blended so as not to give offense to White, Eisenhower-era America.
