A kvetch--SteveO's choice is nice, quirky, charming...but not vital. My bad for not laying out any criteria, but a "best" or "essential" cover has to go from the inside out of a piece, exposing it's guts and usually having some deep meaning for the artist. Bro Jerome could explain this much better. Plus Mr. Joel suffered his own set of mental difficulties...so, near-perfect. BONUS from the same concert: Mr. Wilson and Elton John "Wouldn't It Be Nice" b/w "Barbara Ann" and "Fun Fun Fun" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjOYWiN8s2s&index=13&list=PLd6TFWJAtmUy6R4gPUtDsgz_wZcvXs6oX << look at the backup singers/chorus. Never to be repeated. Watching Elton John and Billy Joel dancing is worth the price of admission. The whole concert in toto isn't available on YouTube--too chopped up with deletions.
