R.I.P. Sixto Rodriguez - whose sound and words are integral to the memories of a generation over here.
Both giants in their own different ways ... long may the music last.

Aussie punk rocker who played a big part in the early Aussie punk scene of the mid 1970s,
went on to form a fairly successful alt-rock band called Died Pretty with varying degrees of success between 83-2022
not a huge fan of Ron but his importance within the Aussie music scene cannot be understated:

David LaFlamme – violinist, vocalist, composer and founder of the San Fransisco based band, It’s a Beautiful Day. He was 82 and had Parkinson’s. R.I.P.
From what I can gather he was a bit of pioneer in terms of rock violin. Urban legend has it that they missed an appearance at Woodstock thanks to the toss of a coin that went in favour of Santana, there being only one slot available. Such is life!
“White Bird” made it into the charts and that remains his best-known piece which he later also recorded solo - outside of the band.
I listened to their eponymously titled debut album in honour and enjoyed it – I’d pick it up if I came across it somewhere. There must’ve been something in the ether in 1969/70 because the intro to “Bombay Calling”, while not the same, is also not dissimilar to Deep Purple’s “Child in Time”. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there was a collective consciousness to do with music, sort of like other interesting and inexplicable means of communications – between trees, for example.
