no, not really SteveO....
their cricket has been up and down and unpredictable for a good couple of decades IMO...
they are not the 'powerhouse' they were through the 60s-80s mate...
...but when theyre on a role and winning they look bloody good,likewise,when they lose they look bloody ordinary..no, when they lose they look pathetic normally.
if Captain Chris Gayle fires with the bat they generally win, when he fails,they lose...
likewise in the 1990s...if Brian Lara failed with the bat, the team generally failed....
they usually rely on one batsman and maybe one or two bowlers to get by and that is not a good cohesive team IMO

Bangladesh take on Scotland today....
im not confident about predicting either team here....
Scotland have looked ok on occasion here but have failed to win any matches,
Bangladesh have one win behind them and a no result due to rain from that cyclone...
this one could go either way really, so its a flip of the coin job...
the coin tells me Bangladesh will win!

Australia v New Zealand....
i tipped Australia and they lost in a close heartstopping match...
i did predict that the game would either be won or lost in the first few overs...
Australia were cruising at 1/80 then lost 8 wickets for 20 runs , they then salvaged another 40 runs before being bowled out
NZ were also cruising before losing several quick wickets, they then recovered before losing a few more wickets in quick fashion
so it was a roler-coaster ride for both teams in this even contest...

the fences/barriers are the boundaries...
if a batsman hits the ball to the boundary on the full(ie, without bouncing or making contact with the playing surface[field]) he scores 6 runs...
if the batsman hits the ball and it makes it to the boundary by bouncing on the field or rolling on the field he is awarded 4 runs.....
other than that to socre runs the batsmen can hit the ball and run when they choose to...
in order to score a run they need to run from one end of the playing pitch to the other(a distance of 22yards),they can choose to run a second and third time, even a fouth time if they can do safely without getting 'run out' in the process...
that said SteveO...the rules are a bit more complicated than that as other variables can come into play, but those are the real 'basic' rules of scoring runs...
the reason a set number of runs is allocated once a ball reaches the boundary is because in the old days of cricket...say 100+ years ago, there weren no boundaries and the game was predominantly played in open grounds in the UK...
a batsman could hit a ball, if that ball travelled off the oval onto a road,rolled down a hill etc, a batsman could keep running to score runs until the ball was retrieved...
likewise, if a ball ended up lodged on a roof or in a river he could also accumilate runs until the ball was retrieved...
a cricket Test Match, a five day game, ends after five days of play even if there is no result, the game is refered to as being a 'drawn test'...
again, in the old days of Test cricket a Test Match could(but very rarely) for six,seven,eight days etc until both teams have been dismissed twice...
that rule changed in the 1950s(i think)...
England were in South Africa playing a test match...the match was upto is eleventh day or something and they had to call it off because England had to get to Cape Town to board the ship back home or theyd be stuck in SA until another ship left for England which was maybe a few weeks away..
so the "5 day Test Match' rule was introduced then
there are literally hundreds of rules/laws for cricket, and sub-sections of rules/laws...
theres no way i could explain them all to you, you'd never understand it...hell!, i played top grade cricket until i was in my early thirties and some of the rules used to baffle me with their interpretations...
and add to that the powers that be chop-and-change rules and modify them every so often, so unless youve played the game and keep up with it all youd never 'get it'...
but i hope i answered your question about the run scoring for you, if i didnt or you find it confusing i will try to go about it a different way mate...
