The best way for me to get exposed to new music has been by using Pandora.com. However since they were purchased by Sirius I'm not sure they'll continue to be a good resource.
However I go through phases, sometimes I am working on finding new artists or new music by artists I like and other times I just enjoy the music I have. Lately I've been listening to older CDs that I haven't played in a while and rating and categorizing the songs.
Another aspect that controls how I discover new music is my eMusic subscription. I'll focus on music I can purchase there, listen to those on Spotify and then buy the songs I like.
I aim to listen to one new release album via Spotify every day (or at least seven a week)…
I try to pick music im not familiar with but at the same time if an artist I love releases an album I make sure to listen to those also...
as I randomly pick albums I get to listen to ALL genres of music, some I love, some I dislike and occasionally I find an artist
in a previously disliked genre that I either missed or overlooked previously...
the last good example of that was Dream Theater, a prog-metal, symphonic-metal band whos release I listened to three or so
years ago, I loved it and delved back into their back catalogue...I now own six or seven of their albums, whereas I would never had
done so otherwise...
I never say never to an artist I do not like neither..i believe ALL artists have an album (either released or yet to be released) that I will like enough to buy...and as musical tastes change and evolve over the years it is highly possible that I will do so.
