it is a collection of stodgy, dirty, grungy synth and guitar driven rock and roll

some guitar work fits in the Prog scene, other bits in Glam, Grunge and funky-disco.
apparently Sturgill teamed up with some Anime creator and they have created an Anime

the guy is still a master storyteller even though some of the melodies
leave a lot to be desired IMO
he seems to have a couple of pure gems on each album nowadays
but to offset that he does have a several duds as well, I guess at this stage of a
career it gets harder to write material that stands up to an artists back catalogue
and that's not just Bruce, that's all artists
a reasonably good album for an artist this far into his career
