I love classical music and I started wishing to play the piano again..

I was playing the piano back in my school but that was long long time ago and the old memories are coming back and while listening to music I am starting to feel the itch in the fingers which can only be relieved by the keys.

I was playing on the acoustic before but I am thinking of going with the digital now.
They have improved a lot judging from what I saw on youtube and from researching on the web.

My budget is about 600$ but I am thinking of going with this piano from Yamaha, the P-45 model. It seems to me like it will provide me with everything I need as someone returning to the piano world.

Here is also a nice youtube video which I liked. The sound really is great for my standards.

I like pretty much everything about this piano but I am still not sure.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who actually had a digital piano, let alone this one so I cant ask anyone for their oppinion..

So I hope that some of you maybe know how to answer my questions..

Is this piano actually good as people say on the youtube and web?
I get that this is an entry level digital but will it suffice a beginner's needs?

Are there maybe some other pianos which I should look into in this price range? I don't really have experience with this so I hope that some of you who have had a lot of keyboards in your time will be able to provide some constructive criticism of my piano choice!

Thank you, everyone, in advance!

No matter how much I practice, allegro vivace tends to be my dead on maximum speed except for a few lucky times. Allegro though is usually my maximum speed with no mistakes.

For example, as I practiced Solfeggio in C minor by C.P.E Bach, this is how I went about it:

1) hands separate, adagio
2) hands together, adagio
3) dynamics, adagio
4) andante
5) Moderato
6) Allegro

And before I went on to the next step I made sure that I made absolutely 0 mistakes.

But as I try to speed it up further this happens:

7) Molto Allegro, few minor mistakes(wrong note for example)
8) Vivace, several mistakes, a few major(wrong octave for example)
9) Presto and Prestissimo, all wrong

There are a few lucky times when I was able to play it presto with 0 mistakes but usually it goes all wrong at Presto, no matter the piece.

This is a major problem for me. How am I ever going to play Toccata and Fugue in D minor if I can't do Presto with 0 mistakes every time. How am I going to play most of Chopin's pieces? How will I play extremely fast notes(like 64ths and faster)?

I have the right handshape all the time.

I make sure I have no mistakes at Allegro.

If I need to, I do it part by part.

And yet, except when I am lucky, I can't do Presto.

Why? Why?

I am able to do trills and tremolos extremely fast. Why can't I do Presto? Why is Allegro my maximum speed without mistakes?

And how can I make myself able to do presto without mistakes when at Presto, no matter how few mistakes(0 or a few minor), it all goes horribly wrong most of the time? It should be as simple as wide and not so wide turns, tremolos, and trills and I am able to do those.

As for a piano teacher, I once had one but she got rude at me during my second year(don't know if it was because I wanted to learn more complicated pieces faster than the average person or what but she was rude about it). So from then on, I have taught myself how to play certain piano pieces.

Most people do not really want to 'learn' to play the piano or 'practice' piano, they just want to 'play' piano. 'Play' sounds like fun, 'practical' sound like a chore. We received this picture from childhood - a child trapped in a 'practice' scale while all the other kids are outside the window 'play'.
play piano, first thing we need to do is to see our piano practice in a new light. See it as a way of accelerating the learning process so that SOON you’ll be able to ‘play’ piano and play it well. If you don’t practice and you just play old familiar tunes you move rather slowly. Yes, you’ll get better at playing those old familiar tunes but technically you won’t be pushing yourself to greater heights.

Proper, structured piano practice helps you stride forwards. I say ‘proper’ because a lot of people have an idea that practice IS just playing songs over and over. Practice needs to involve unchartered territory. The golden rule is – ‘practice what you CAN’T play, not what you CAN play’.

First of all, work out what you want to achieve. Do you just want to know all your chords without thinking about how they are formed – then work out a practice routine that leads to that goal. Maybe you want to learn about inversions or chord substitution – again, make the practice fit the goal.

Split your practice session into two halves. In the first half play the difficult stuff – your mind is sharper to begin with – then reward yourself with some enjoyable but reasonably difficult tunes. Make sure you are comfortable. Many a bad back has happened because of a bad piano stool at the wrong height. Make sure your piano is in tune. If you don’t have a good piano and are serious about learning GO BUY A GOOD ONE.
Every fifteen minutes stretch your arms and shoulders and roll your neck to combat stiffness. Check out some Yoga exercises for shoulders and back.

Follow the 3 times daily rule. Repetition in practice is ESSENTIAL. If you find something particularly difficult make sure you practice it at least 3 times every day. Don’t worry if it takes months to master – you’ll get there.
Don’t play for the neighbours. Practice piano at a time when you don’t care who is listening so that you can make lot’s of mistakes and play things over and over. Organise your piano music carefully – don’t keep it in a heap where you keep playing the ones on top. If you download sheet music put it in a folder. Have plenty of shelves near the piano. Be realistic – I truly believe that anyone can learn piano and learn it to an enjoyable level but no two people are alike

piano , – or don’t look at the keys . Too many people think they don’t have time to practice when really they just haven’t found the time. You don’t have to be a concert pianist. The archer who’s mind is on the prize cannot stay focussed on the target. Accept the bad days when it seems like you can’t play . So remember that ‘playing’ piano and ‘practicing’ piano . Which do you do? Aim for a bit of both.

I use it in conjunction with my korg SV1 stage piano . a good investment for any keyboard player .

After a few years of piano playing I wanted to become a famous composer like Mozart and Beethoven. So I started by trying to write a symphony. But I was like "Where should I start? What instrument/instruments should I use first? What key signature? What time signature? etc." I had so many questions popping up in my head that I just couldn't do it.

So I thought about doing a piano concerto. At that time I was learning Piano concerto no. 21 by Mozart. I thought that if I use the piano as a base. I can figure out the rest of the orchestra. But I still couldn't do it.

This is when I said to myself "You might want to start big but really, you have to start with simple sonatas before you get to orchestral stuff." So I wrote the first movement of a piano sonata in Bb. It was written in Mozart's style(That is exposition in original key, development in a minor key, start of recapitulation in a different key than the original, end of recapitulation in original key.) When I played it, it also felt like mozart in that it was simple but complex at the same time.

I was then trying to write the second movement of it when I lost my composition book. To this day I still haven't found my composition book. Because of that, every time I try to play one of my compositions I either don't remember how to play it or it ends up being different every time.

I really had beethoven in my mind when this whole composition thing started since he wrote symphonies before he wrote piano sonatas and I wanted to be the same way.

Is there anything that can help me answer those musical questions easier and write orchestral pieces and not just piano pieces? Listening to orchestral pieces has not helped with it at all. It has just made me want to either play a piano concerto with an orchestra or play the piano solo transcription of the piece.

and I'm having a little trouble identifying the chords in the "Rhythm & Melody" middle section,
at about 1m:50s. Bass alternates from F to C but the chords have a jazz flavor and I can get close but
I don't think I'm totally correct. (The chord with the C bass sounds like C7sus4...)

Would any of you wonderful people just happen to know what they are???

I'm actually a drummer. But I came here to ask you nice keyboard people some questions!

I recently bought a midi keyboard for my new band to use. We're playing music influenced by bands like The National,The Shins, Iron and Wine..ect.

The problem I'm running into is I can't seem to find samples that fit out style. I have analog lab and our vocalist has studio one. It seems a lot of the samples are geared towards electronic music. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a program or keyboard.

I'm looking for samples that are similar to the ones in these songs:
