theres a good mix of soft rock, pop and ballads
album is autobiographical as he reminisces about his early years

one for George:  Paul McCartney - Down South (Audio)
a duet with Ringo:   Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr - Home to Us (Lyric Video)
one for his parents:  Paul McCartney - Salesman Saint (Audio)

yes, his voice is shot
there are some lovely melodies but overall its not an album for anyone but fans IMO
even then, i will play it another couple of times in the car, and again for my end of year rankings but probably never again after that
it is better five of his previous seven albums for me but still probably scores a 5.5/10

i cant criticise the guy too much because:
1: he wasa Beatle, 
2: he is the most successful songwriter of all time,
3: because of reasons 1 and 2 he has earned every right to do whatever he pleases
and 4: why not!?

as a footnote the album debuted on the UK charts at #1 this week and #5 here in Australia

best track for me is the opening track,
i like the spoken word verses and the chaotic ragged chorus lines and almost psychedelic guitar work

Totally missed this one, even after flagging it! Released on the 27th of March. Nightjar is touted as a companion album to 2005’s Life in Slow Motion. It’s one hour and seventeen minutes and 19 tracks long. A double album, in the language of the days of yore. And actually, it does seem to have been released on vinyl, firstly. Quite a challenging listen for someone with the attention span of a goldfish – as in yours truly, currently.

The first four tracks were my cup of tea, then came some forgettable techno type offerings and some non-techno forgettable offerings – a general lack of cohesion, I thought, which is to be expected considering it’s likely an album of tracks that didn’t make it to a release two decades back.  

However, it’s not all doom and gloom – there is certainly some – this is David Gray after all! But seriously – there are more than a few redeeming numbers once you get to grips with the thing. If I did acquire the album, I would quickly learn which tracks to skip over.

Ultimately, on balance, I’d say there’s more worthwhile hearing than misstep, so if you’re a fan, give it whirl – you’re likely to find something that is pleasing to the ear.

I had high hopes, hearing the first song, and the rest wasn't awful but there is a fair amount of dissonance and angst and I wasn't in the mood to dive deep in terms of listening. There are couple of tracks on the album that seemed particularly hard to hear but I'll have to revisit to decide and I'm not sure I'm in the mood right now. Kudos to him for following his muse, I guess! I went and looked up "Mandolin Rain", with Ricky Skaggs. Now there was a super poetic title and a very fab piece of music.
