Dr.Who....50 years old today
#1
its been fifty years since the iconic, and first, tv sci-fi series hit the screens in the UK...
it is still in production to this day and just as popular today in Australia and the UK as it ever was...
Dr.Who paved the way for all the other sci-fi series that followed, including Star Trek...

for those who dont know what Dr.Who is, he is a Timelord(a sort of intergalactic time travelling policeman), he travels through space and time in his TARDIS(time and relative dimensions in space) machine that resembles an old British Police Phone Box.

the reason it has been able to last 50 years with so many actors playing the role of 'the doctor' is because Timelords have the ability to regenerate themselves when their bodies get weary, thus making it believable and plausable...
so far there have been 11 actors to play the lead role, the best IMO was Tom Baker(the fourth incarnation).
The Doctor himself is always eccentric in one way or another, this changes with each incarnation as the eccentricities are part of each actor's psychy...

below is a clip of all the "regenerations" of the Doctor...

I have watched off and on since the US has carried it
good show

there has been some talk here that the birth of Dr. Who and the death of JFK may be more than coincidence

^ Now that's an interesting take MH ! I watch Dr. Who off and on...not a dedicated fan!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

there's only probably the Tom Baker years (74-81) that i will watch on re-runs, all the other Doctor's suck IMO!
the only other re-runs i'll watch(or even new ones) involve 'daleks', and even they are stupid interpretations of their former selves IMO
