to all members(especially Jerome whom i imagine is a big Gabriel fan)...
i only have "Peter Gabriel 3"...the one with "games without frontiers" on it....!
but after seeing him on Later With Jools(see 'currently watching' thread for my link) the other night i want some recommendations for a studio album or two...
ps, i loved that track linked from Jools Holland

Crazy Man - Get hold of the album 'So'. Very good and quite commercial as opposed to his others which were quite experimental. Then there's the concept album 'OVO' as well. But if you really want the full PG experience his Secret World DVD is awesome. Peter Gabriel '4' is not bad either. The track you mention in the link is from PG 4 (one with the ethnic/African guy on the cover) And finally two soundtracks - the 'Rabbit Proof Fence' movie & 'Passion'. Both very good but only if you are into obscure instrumentals. Passion has some haunting music. Link below is also from PG4 -

Hi Crazy Horse,
My reccos from each album:
1 - (Car) - Humdrum, Solsbury Hill, Here Comes the Flood & Moribund The Burgermeister (simple but a sense of play in each song)
2 - (Scratch) - Exposure, On The Air, D.I.Y. (clever album but a touch darker in sound - I pick this one up the least of the early albums)
3 - (Melt) - The whole album love it! (my first choice)
4 - (Security) - The whole album love it! (my second choice)
5 - So - Red Rain, Mercy Street, Don't Give Up, In Your Eyes, We Do What We're Told (I agree with Jerome a solid album chock full of hits)
6 - Us - Come Talk to Me, Blood Of Eden, Digging in the Dirt, Secret World (Another solid album very polished)
7 - Up - Barry Williams Show, growing Up, Sky Blue (a solid but darker album - more polished than the earlier albums but a darker feeling throughout)
Soundtracks -
1. Birdy - Close Up (from Family Snapshot ....haunting, haunting, haunting....under a minute of pure emotion)
2. Passion - Zaar (lots of percussion and use of unusual instruments throughout the album)
3. OVO - The Time of the Turning, The Time of the Turning/ Weaver's Reel, Father Son, Down-Side Up (as I list these I would say this is my favourite soundtrack of his)
4. Long Walk Home - Cloudless, The Rabbit-Proof Fence, Ngankarrparni (Sky Blue Reprise) - (Yet another solid album form PG, lots of atmosphere in these songs)
Enjoy the journey into Peter's world!

One thing to note (if memory serves me well) is that Peter Gabriel 4 is one of the few rock albums that has plenty of drums - but no cymbals. Unusual.
