Mystery, esoteric, horror movies. What are the best ones?

What are the best mystery (ghost, spirits, unfathomable situations, etc), horror movies you've ever seen and would suggest people watch? I'd go with The Others, Kairo (a Japanese one) and Hombre Mirando al Sudeste (a flawless Argentinian movie). Those ones left me wondering so much... so, what are those movies that made you unable to doze off for entire nights?

This Topic is right up my alley. Love horror movies!!. I would suggest The Sixth Sense, Poltergeist 1 & 2, The Others, The Omen (older version), Carrie, Pet Cemetary, White Noise, & Secret Window. I'm sure there are others but I'll stop there.

You should read Lovecraft or A. Poe! Confusedmile:

I've just finished reading The Hound by Lovecraft! Enthralling stuff! I wonder if there's the movie... I really recommend reading it if you like this kind of thing!

Paranormal activity 2 is pretty spooky.

i always find the scariest horror film is when you don't see the ghost or monster. Instead your imagination runs wild.

Assuming you were serious about esoteric, try either of these two David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers and Ken Russel's The Devils

I like the series beyond fact and fiction. Fun trying to figure out which ones are true and which ones are not. Also like the stories on TV about hauntings in different parts of the country. Oh, liked the Amityville Horror movie too.

I find that Asian movie makers tend to do this kind of thing quite well. Rather than use something that the audience is already familiar with and can classify (e.g. ghost, vampire, werewolf, parallel universe, time travel etc), they often come up with some new form of horror.
