If I ever find myself in Australia I will stay out of the water. I haven't heard of any attacks here in FL this year.

What a drag...summer is coming down under and it looks like you can't go swimming in the ocean ! Is this a common problem all over Australia or just the west coast, Crazy ?

Wow, there has been only 17 reported in Florida this year, I think
there has been more Gator attacks or close calls though.

call me simple minded
I've never understood why anyone would get in water deeper than they are
knowing there are creatures in that water that will eat them
hell I check my bath water for creatures
if there's a creature in there, I don't get in

sorry it took so long for me to get back to this question SteveO....

the whole coastline here seems to have attacks on a yearly basis...hell, there was even an attack on a Navy Diver in the river near the Sydney Opera House the other year...

also, if you look at a map of Australia, go to the north west, locate Broome, then follow the northern shore around to Townsville...those areas are prone to Crocodile attacks, death from jellyfish, sea snakes, and other nasties that live in the tropical waters....

basically, the entire coastline here has something in it that can kill or seriously maime you...

we have an octopus here(blue ringed octopus), not much bigger than 1.5inches(37mm),...if that bites you, youre in hospital for a while, if you are elderly, young or have heart problems, youre dead!....

the list just goes on and on with dangerous/venomous creaturesa in and out of the water here!

christ, 16 of the top 20 most venemous snakes in the world live right here!
