I am sure many of you have read books while listening to music but here's one to try if you are so inclined. Some time ago I read Joe Simpson's 'The Beckoning Silence'. A book about the dangers (and triumphs) of mountaineering. There was one part in the book where he and his climbing partner are trapped on the Eiger's north face. At the time I was so engrossed in the book I could not be bothered to change the CD which was on repeat. Eno's - Apollo - Atmospheres and Soundtracks. I did not realise until I had stopped reading that the music was a perfect accompaniement to the book. It was a better experience than a movie. Subliminally, or maybe subconsciously, (ask the head doctors), the music set the scene and provided the best reading experience of my life. Must do it again. Now if I can only find the right music for the Playboy mags........
