I think that the Moody Blues best albums were produced when Mike Pinder was the keyboard player. His use of the Mellotron in particular gave the Moodies a certain surreal quality which i think was sadly lacking in some of their more recent work . the albums that i would reccomend to anyone would be
(1) days of future passed
(2) in search of the lost chord
(3) on the threshold of a dream
(4) to our childrens childrens children
(5) a question of balance
(6) every good boy deserves favour
(7) seventh sojourn
(8) caught live plus 5
their other albums are also very good but the list above i think gives the classic Moodies sound.
