this is a four cd set that features covers of Bob Dylan songs to mark the 50th Anniversary of not only Amnesty International but also the 50th anniversary of the start of Bob Dylan's illustrious career,and what better way than to celebrate Amnesty International than with a collection of tracks by one who wrote so many human rights,social issue songs and also basically set the tone for the whole 1960s 'peace/love' movenments in Bob Dylan!

i bought this one the day it was released here some three weeks ago, just got around to listening to all four cds....and overall?, im not very impressed with the sounds on this 69 track boxset of Dylan covers.
sure, there have been numerous classic covers of Dylan tracks over the last six decades,none moreso,than those by The Byrds IMO,followed by the Manfred Mann covers, and obviously other artists who may have occasionally done one or two good versions.
however,here, at least half these tracks are sub-standard,at least a quarter of the remaining ones are 'so-so' to 'average' covers,leaving probably enough good ones that this could have and probably should have been condensed into a very good single disc album.
sure, some artists i absolutely adore feature on here like My Morning Jacket,Elvis Costello,Pete Townshend & Kris Kristofferson, but they all lack that killer "oomph!" that i thought they might inject into these songs...others i like like Gaslight Anthem,Adele,Sinead O'Connor,Neil Finn/Pajama Club all do reasonable versions, even artists i am not overly keen on like Bryan Ferry and Mick Hucknall do Dylan justice here.
all the artists featured here did so in their own time and all royalties from these songs go directly to Amnesty International courtesy of an agreement,whereby even Dylan gave the organisation free access to all his material to do with whatever they chose to for their 50th anniversary....so for that alone,all the artists involved and Dylan himself need to be congratulated, that aside though...unless you want to buy this as a donation to the Charity for their use and feel as though you actually got something for your donation, then i suggest you do not buy it,well, not for the songs anyway...!

the biggest dissapointment for me on this album was Elvis Costello's "licence to kill" cover....he should have nailed this one,but alas, it nailed him!

also, to avoid being prejudice for and against artists on here, i didnt look at the artist name on my ipod whilst listening to this, i just made a note of the track # of each song and relayed it here in the attached linked songs....!
