Black Country Communion: Saviors of Rock?
#1
Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham. That much talent in one group is hard to come by nowadays. If you haven't heard BCC yet (which if you haven't, you should definitely make it a priority if you truly love rock and roll) you must undoubtedly be familiar with the work of any one of its members.

Glenn Hughes; dubbed the "The voice of Rock", at the age of 60 his vocal range is stellar. Apparently the 20 or so years of heavy drinking and cocaine use affected everything BUT his voice.

Joe Bonamassa; Talented young blues guitarist and equally talented singer. If he isn't in your modern blues line up, then it isn't much of a line up to begin with is it?

Derek Sherinian; Former keyboardist for John Petrucci's Dream Theater. Like a modern Jon Lord... but not really...

Jason Bonham; Son of the late great John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Without him, there would be a certain 'emptiness' to these songs.

Ah, well, sure they have respectable credentials, but are they any good? I don't know, does Ozzy Osbourne have the cognitive abilities of a toddler? The answer is yes and (sadly) yes as well. But they are more than that. There is something distinctly "oh yeah, THIS is rock n roll" about them that doesn't exist in most other modern incarnations of the genre. Maybe it's Glenn's searing vocals or Joe's purely badass guitar playing. I could easily see some of these songs appearing on a Zeppelin album, yet others are uniquely their own. Either way, I do believe these men are deserving of the title of "Saviors of Rock". They unquestionably carry on the rock n roll torch with the unrelenting and unapologetic fervor. I cannot think of a more deserving group to preserve and carry on the sound. But if you can, I would love to hear it. Let us discuss.

I like this group a lot, own both CDs, but I'm an old guy and they are playing my kind of music really well. Not sure they will appeal to new listeners and the younger audience. I hope they do and that they can get a revival of good hard asskickin rock and roll going.

Right, I can see that. I believe part of the way people people initially receive albums is based off of their predisposition. You get what you come in expecting, or sometimes the opposite. In my case I did have a predisposed love for Joe Bonamassa's music and the spirit of Led Zeppelin that Bonham carried. Maybe that influenced my outlook. A comment on youtube described them as a blend of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Cream. (which I can totally hear)

Either way, all the tracks are solid and there are a few highlights to be noted.

My personal favorite from both of the albums (Bonamassa on lead vocals, with a bit of Hughes):

Another goody (again Bonamassa and Hughes share vocals):

For those who like the metal side of BCC:

One of the Zeppelin-esque pieces:

Sorry for putting so many videos in one post!

thats where i dont get it then....

not a problem putting video's or links in posts as long as they are relevant...which yours are.

not a fan of Deep purple(have a best of set, some good/some i dont like) like bits of Led Zep("IV" was brilliant IMO,can take or leave the rest) and Cream(have a double 'best of' set, some i like, others i dont)

from memory did like just over half of BCC first album, several tracks just didnt do it for me....

just not a fan of lengthy guitar solos as a rule.

They remind me of Deep Purple 'Made in Europe' era. Also a touch of Rainbow - the 'Live on Stage' album

See, I'm far younger than the average listener of rock and roll. In fact, I might be the youngest person here! My dad raised me on Zeppelin, Stones, Cream and the like. I can't get enough of it since. BCC is the perfect thing for me. I was a huge Bonamassa fan before BCC was conceived, so I came in loving it!

Aha! That's where you and I differ then. I don't think there are ENOUGH long guitar solos nowadays. Nothing gets me more energized!

I suspect you might not like this, but give it a try - long piece and develops quite nicely - quality isn't great but what the hell it's free.

From what I'm hearing, it's a solid piece. Not something I would listen to all the time, but definitely not a throw away either.
