What are some pet peeves or things that bug you the most about music in general ?
#1
I have three pet peeves:

1. Why are instrumentals referred to as "songs" ? There's no singing....they're instrumentals !!!!!
You'll hear a dj say and now here's a song by Edgar Winter ...Frankenstein ????

2. Why has Paul McCartney never , to my knowledge..maybe he has somewhere ??? sung She's Leaving Home live in concert ???!!!!...Such a beautiful song !

3. I know one member of this gang who'll agree with me !!!!...What's with all the hundreds of genres and now even sub-genres in music today!!!!!!????? and please don't tell me there is such a thing now as a SUB-sub genre!!!!:eek::eek:

Mine are chiefly related to CDs:

1 The plastic film that's used to wrap new CDs, and can be a pain in the arse to remove. Also the adhesive plastic strips that are used to hold the jewel case of new discs closed, that leave sticky crap on the case that needs to be removed. Not OCD, honest !!

2 "Secret" tracks on CDs. Grow up, and stop wasting my time !!

3 Genres rule...

I hate that 'Alternative' is now in itself a genre. What's the alternative to alternative then? How can something be an alternative if it's mainstream?

I 'm only going on a hunch here but there is a bone of contention between George Martin and Macca over this one....................Paul could not wait to get the orchestration for the track . George Martin was busy and could not score it for him................so Paul went to Mike Leander who did it for him ( and nice it is ) but ole George M always bore a grudge over that and so maybe not to offend George Paul does not do it live ????
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Digipaks that fall apart the first time you open it. The lack of any decent artwork - or the bands cannot be bothered to actually put some effort into it. U2's 'No Line on the Horizon' is a case in point. Formula bands with no obvious talent of any sort. I find it incredible that the majors are continually complaining about declining sales but keep on trying to sell us third-rate crap. They're getting what they deserve - and about time too.

Hi J !

I agree with your comment, man the old album covers were something to be cherished !!!

My musician friends close to the business tell me the money is in touring globally....and they aren't really concerned about downloading...it's the way to get exposure...kids can't afford hundreds of CDs especially the way the music market changes from one day to the next !

Post Alternative! (Having been in the biz for a long time, I know how this works!)

Genres and sub-genres are used by human beings as a way to label things which will allow us to find commonalities that lead us to bonding together, a necesity as social animals. We pretty much do it with everything as a species. (Wow, I guess I didn't piss away that 20K on an education way back when!)
Seriously, that is why we do it.

Agree. The lack of good artwork for CDs is deplorable.
