cd packaging
#1
is it just here in australia that more and more cds are being packaged in cardboard sleeves instead of the jewel cases or is it happening elsewhere also?
i dont like the cardboard packaging at all, i have a distinct feeling the record companies are not olny doing it to save money on costs but so that the discs themselves get scratched and we have to keep replacing them!Cool

I've notice it here too.
But I'm of the opposite view. I friggin hate them jewel cases. Have so many that are cracked, some when I get them. Others that the front comes off when you open it. Much prefer the cardboard.

I mail out a lot of CD's and DVD's and I use cardboard sleeves because you can send them as oversized mail, which doesn't go through customs, nor cost nearly as much. Also, for labeling, you can print off a sticker and put it on the cardboard, whereas the Jewel case requires a whole lot of printing, cutting, folding and inevitably cracking.

I prefer eco-wallets. Seems more fancy. Anyone can slip a piece of paper into a jewel case bought at Wal-Mart.

I like the Digipaks - ergonomically better I feel.

I actually like Jewel Boxes. My monthly music mag subscription includes a cover CD, so I keep these as spares. Don't want any unpristine Jewel Boxes in my precious collection...

Many bands are going that route now. Cheaper... more economically friendly.

I like it.
