After sitting around and wishing I knew how to play the guitar, I've finally decided to just go ahead and learn. Iâm not new to music by any means, I've been playing violin and piano since I was 5 years old (I'm now 24) and have been in some light touch with the guitar.
My biggest problem now is where to start. I also understand that there are two different types of acoustic guitars: steel-string and classical. I'd actually like to learn a bit of both...to be able to play some classical guitar (John Williams blows me away) along with some more light-hearted Jack Johnson-type stuff. I plan on taking some online lessons to help get me started and want to have a source that can match all the needs I want like learning all the chords,. I just donât it to be over soon, but practice with daily lessons.
Suggest me something that I can look upon â¦â¦ Sorry for the long post and thanks for your help!

Itâs always good to have some prior knowledge other then just going on the net and imagine you being spoon-fed. I have just been over with my teaching lessons from a teacher and due to my busy schedule I had missed some classes which I could not get back. Then I decided to learn guitar online. That is Hotstrings.HotStringsâthe source for the easy way to learn guitar. Download the free viewer and courses directly to your PC. Learn the chords, licks and shredding techniques of seasoned professionals. Master easy daily exercises with real songs and a real band.

Man you have to be keen in order to learn online. Thinking this over, you will need to encourage yourself and when things just don't seem to work. Then what.... I think you would be better off if you could get lessons from time to time as well.

I use a free program called ScaleTrainer
http://www.ecogneato.com/products/stge/s...oduct.html that samples my guitar through my computers sound card. It shows my whats right and wrong for a (scale/mode/key combination), then I just mess around on the guitar until I find something that sounds good and then I layer parts with a four track. Its a great hobby, I've been doing it for years. Since I hate tabs and can't afford lessons so this is a great alternative.

I dunno really about "learning" guitar, or playing it how others want you to, or say is important. Its something you play, and if it sounds good enough, you play it! guitar and piano u dont need to "learn" drums is a different case however, cos that requires much more knowledge.

You could spend money and lots of time in learning to play the guitar, or you could pick up the game 'Guitar Hero' and be a top rockstar straight away. :oh::lol:

I'm currently learning the keyboard (as a basis to read sheet music), but my ultimate aim is to play guitar. I think the most important thing to do is to be patient and take time and advice to choose the right type of acoustic guitar as a beginning instrument, before you even consider how to learn. I've already sought advice on this from a bricks-and-mortar music shop near me, as well as combining it with my own research and the assistant in the shop agreed with my conclusion. Pay a little more and go for a solid top acoustic as a beginner to get a deeper sound, but research and get some idea first so that you can discuss it proficiently and be sure that this is for you.

I would recommend using guitar pro and learning songs from tab right away. First starting with easy songs of course then advancing to harder ones. About the music theory you can learn easily from websites. So rather than wasting money on online courses I would recommend first to learn guitar tab(search youtube), then learn from guitar pro right away.
