Hello All!
#1
Hi, shadowmac here - a brand new member. I am into many different styles of music from eclectic new-age (Mannheim Steamroller) to classical / symphonic to Celtic / folk (Great Big Sea, Wolfstone) to metal.

I listen to metal the most, particularly metal that is melodic coupled with heavy rhythms.

My favorite bands (I have 3 - all tied for first place) run the spectrum from IRON MAIDEN to RUSH to ASIA.

My favorite vocalists are DC Cooper, Bruce Dickinson, Ray Alder, Jorn Lande, Lance King, Dio, Corey Brown, Roy Kahn, Rob Rock, John Wetton and early Geoff Tate.

I am a musician in a band (HEDDA) influenced by these artists as well as music from 70's Prog to today's metal including (but not limited to): DREAM THEATER, QUEENSRYCHE, KAMELOT, MASTERPLAN, AVANTASIA, SAVATAGE, NOCTURNAL RITES, KANSAS, STYX, GEORGE LYNCH and FIREWIND to name just a few and I'm always on the look-out for the next awesome band.

I look forward to having some great discussions here. Confusedmile:

Welcome to MD !Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Hi shadowmac, & welcome to MD.

I'm guessing that you're familiar with John Wetton from his spell with Asia. My main interest in him is his period with King Crimson. Have you heard any of this also ??

Hope you enjoy the site...

I remember Wetton from a brief stint with Uriah Heep also, which I always thought was an overlooked band of the era.

Thanks for the replies and greetings.

My first exposure to Wetton was ASIA - Asia back in 1982. ASIA quickly became my favorite band - Rush was a close second (I have an older sister who was cranking "All the World's a Stage" and YES - "Drama") but is wasn't until 84-85 or so that I got into Maiden and metal in general. Heck, I was just a kid.

Anyway, I really got into ASIA and then Yes and then dug deeper and found "The Court of the Crimson King" and then "In the Dead of Night" by UK. I now have just about everything that Wetton has done including the newer ICON stuff, which I find to be all-too-often too much of the same sappy /wimpy ballad-esque tunes for me to really get into, although there are some highlights.

I've seen ASIA twice and they put on great shows on both occasions. The newest album "The Pheonix" is a throw-back to the first two ASIA albums and one can hear the opening measures of a given song and name the one from the 80's that they wanted it to sound like. Which is cool because I loked all those songs, however the highlight of the album is the song "Wish I'd Known All Along". It is excellent, it has a Spanish flare, great BG vocal layering and is not simply regurgitated 80's ASIA. Check it out.
