RAIN BEFORE SEVEN ~ Penguin Cafe

The Oxford Dictionary of proverbs decrees that the proverb rain before seven, fine before eleven is “An observation on the British weather that often turns out to be at least partially accurate.” LOL – I guess the same could be said of many results – partially accurate! I suppose it speaks to an eternal cautious optimism, a wry, dry sense of humour, and that is very much the vibe here. There is one track in particular which is a tad overly cheerful – sorry to be a misery, but you know – sometimes, madly exuberant is a bit tedious. Aside from that, you will find Penguin Cafe doing what they do best IMHO – looping, eloquent, experimental in places - producing sounds that are a little unusual and generally pleasing on the ear. On mine, anyway.
Their music grows on you – to be absorbed in more than one sitting … shimmering strings, fabulous double bass/contrabass and some other interesting thingummies. All instrumental and in this thread as erring on the side of modern classical more than anything else.
Pick of the bunch, (for today, at least!) ...
